Condolences
To Crystal's Family,
I'm so sorry to hear that Crystal passed away. I only met her once, on September 8th, but her warm personality left a lasting impression.
We actually purchased a photo package from Walmart and Crystal was our off-site photographer. She met us at Nosehill park and walked to a location there that has sentimental value to our family. I wasn't sure if the photographer would be willing to take the 10 minute walk, & was prepared to have the photo taken closer to the parking lot, but Crystal was totally enthusiastic to do it.
Along the way, was when we got chatting. She first commented about the berries reminding her of Nova Scotia. She mentioned her sister and growing up there. She shared interesting stories about the variety of clients she's photographed, from the dog who was going to be put down to people who have immigrated to Canada and wanted to show their families back home how well they were doing. She mentioned the amount she receives for a photo session and it wasn't a lot considering her time, childcare, and driving. It was so evident though, that it was what she loved. She talked about starting her own business and obviously had clients who loved her work.
She talked about her young daughter, who she said was a budding photographer too. We got a bit personal and she shared some history of her Greek ex-husband. She jokingly said that she was told, "when you marry a Greek, the kid's all Greek". She was very proud to say, "not in my case, my daughter's all me." She also mentioned that a big reason she stayed here in Calgary was that her in-laws were so good to her daughter. It was one of those rare conversations that turned a photo session into a great time.
My family hates taking pictures and we don't do it often but Crystal had everyone smiling, even our puppy. I don't know if she knew how rare that is for us, but it seemed effortless. She showed me some of the shots from her camera, which were beautiful. She asked me to give her lots of time to edit them, telling us that Walmart doesn't like her doing extra work on them, but that she felt editing makes all the difference.
When I texted her and then called Walmart a few weeks ago to follow up, they informed me of Crystals passing. Since then, I've been wondering if it would be okay to share how wonderful it was to meet her and also mention that if the pictures are ever found from that day, we would really treasure having them.
Being a closed-off person, I learned a lot from Crystal and the immediate genuineness she showed me. I really admired her for being brave enough to do what she loves and feel lucky to have met her.
I wanted to pass on my condolences and share the time I spent with her that day.
