Condolences
Our love and prayers to you and your family; we know how much you treasured him, and how much he’ll be missed.
Hello Gauthier family,
I was saddened to hear of Mr Gauthier’s passing this week. I am not in Calgary and won’t be able to be with you tomorrow but
wanted to share some special memories of Mr G:
– your parents/grandparents were like my third set of grandparents. They watched Karen and I grow up. I would stop by after school and chat (also with Gran), borrow baking supplies, sometimes play a few games in the games room. He was part of our family. We were glad to include him for our annual Ukrainian Xmas dinners.
– he was tolerant: as a teen, when I had to keep borrowing their key to our house when I got locked out or couldn’t find mine.
– he had a great sense of humour: each crabapple harvest we would exchange fire by lobbing crabapples into each other’s yards (I would be on the garage roof, he would be on his deck).
– he was thoughtful – in the early mornings (he knew I wasn’t an early bird and was always running late) he would scrape off the frost or snow off the windshield of my car while I was in high school and university.
– he was organized and neat: he had the cleanest garage I have ever seen. He was always the first on the block to put up and take down his Xmas lights, rake leaves or shovel the sidewalk. He often shovelled ours.
– he was a proud vet: he would share his stories and we would nerd out on how know the difference between a V1 and a V2 rocket etc.
– we could see his dining room from ours and we would often share a pre-dinner wave
– he was neighbourly: he was always glad to see us and stop what he was doing for a chat over the fence.
– he was cool: he always had a new hip car to show us (in mint condition of course)
– he was kind: when my Mom died of cancer, he took extra care to look in on my Dad.
– most of all, he was very very proud of all of you. He would always know what was going on with each of you and would be so pleased to share your news and accomplishments with us.
I am so sorry for your loss but so glad I got a chance to know him.
Love
Sandy Rever
My heart and prayers go out to the Gauthier Family. May he rest in peace.
