Condolences
Something told me to search Darrell online this morning and was not expecting to find this. I am shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I met Darrell many years ago when we lived in the same apartment building in Winnipeg. Our relationship is one I have never forgotten, thought of him often. I am happy to hear that he had a good life in Calgary. He was a great guy! My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
I first met Darrell, me being a salesman calling on Intercity Gas in Winnipeg where Darrell worked with inventory for the prairies. We reconnected in Calgary when careers created our moves. I still have cross country skies and boots Darrell got for me for the favorite Wpg price, “wholesale”. He was ever quick on his feet when it came to humor. We were in the elevator in my apt. & Darrell had his vacuum en route to clean my apartment. There were 3 others in the elevator when Darrell entertained with tricks he taught his vacuum like roll over, by twisting the hose. He then sought sympathy by pretending to be a door to door salesman and said he really needed “this sale” because he hadn’t eaten for a week . All with a straight face! Everyone was taken in.
We had many laughs together. During his time with Allsports as a sales rep, he often stopped by the office for a “good coffee”, not to mention a place to gather his thoughts before calling on another corporate client. The giant pots of steamed crab legs dinners at my apartment were something Darrell relished. My aunt in Calgary made it a point to include Darrell for dinner on many occasions. She enjoyed watching him enjoy her cooking.
The man could eat !
I was honored to be in the wedding party when he married the love of his life, Sabrina. It took a special lady to put a bridle on this free spirit.
To say that reading his obit was a shock is an understatement. I could go on but do not have the vocabulary to capture Darrell’s persona.
Suffice it to say that behind that smirk was a racing mind.
God’s speed my friend.
I'm am totally shocked to hear of Darrell's passing; we had lost contact with each other over the years, however, I do have fond memories of our times together as a friend and colleague. I can honestly say, that Darrell was one of my mentors in my early days in the telecommunications business. My sincere condolences to Darrell's family and friends; Darrell may you rest in peace with our Lord.
