Nancy Davies

Obituary of Nancy M. L. Davies

August 21, 1940 - St. Stephen, New Brunswick

May 6, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Our beautiful mum and grandma, Nancy, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of 83 years.

Nancy’s family was the center of her world. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kathy (Bryan) Murphy, Tracy (Cary) Humphrey, and Randy Davies; and daughter-in-law Cheryl Davies. Nancy was a big fan of her grandchildren and delighted in their accomplishments. She will be dearly missed by grandchildren, Jenna (Colin), Cara (Tyson), Shaeann, Paige, and Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Calem, Brooke, and Wyatt. Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Reginald, son Rob, grandson Jarrett, and parents, Sydney and Margaret Brown.

A lifelong learner, Nancy obtained degrees from King’s College (Dalhousie), a teaching certificate from the University of New Brunswick, and diplomas in Guidance Counselling from both the University of Calgary and the University of New Brunswick. She was an adventurous young teacher moving from New Brunswick to Fort Smith, NWT, where she met and married Reg and together they formed lasting friendships. In 1973, they relocated to Calgary, AB, and she spent 23 years as a junior high school guidance counsellor with the Calgary Board of Education. She initiated the Peer Support Team at Nickle Junior High and trained students to support, rely on, and encourage each other.

Nancy loved playing bridge. She began playing with her dorm mates at King's. When she moved to Calgary, she enjoyed playing with the Thursday night bridge group of local ladies. With Reg as her partner, they played with different bridge clubs in Calgary and socially with friends. She continued to finesse her skills with classes and online games during the pandemic.

Nancy and Reg loved to travel with their friends and family over the years, going on golf trips, visiting the Maritimes, spending Christmas holidays in Hawaii and Mexico, joining the King’s group in Bermuda, and taking many cruises. A memorable experience in her later years was bringing her twin granddaughters on a Disney Cruise to Alaska and seeing them greet Anna and Elsa in the icy north.

Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and positive outlook.
