Obituary of Dr. Rudolf Franz Raimund Hofmann

Dr. Rudolph Franz Hofmann, born on May 6, 1927, passed away peacefully in Calgary on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. A devoted husband, father, and esteemed member of the community, Dr. Hofmann's life was characterized by unwavering dedication, kindness, and boundless generosity.

 

Born in Austria, Dr. Hofmann embarked on a journey of service and excellence that spanned continents. He immigrated to Canada in 1955, where he embraced new opportunities and made enduring contributions to both the medical field and the Austrian Canadian community.

 

A dedicated leader and healer, Dr. Hofmann served as the President of the Calgary Austrian Canadian Society from 1974 to 1980, fostering cultural exchange and camaraderie within the community. He also served as the President of the Peter Lougheed Center, formally the Calgary General Hospital, in 1974, where his visionary leadership and compassion touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues. He spent many hours out of his practice in Bowness, for many years helping families and making house calls.

 

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Hofmann found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A passionate gardener, he nurtured his little forest and lush greenery, finding solace and tranquility amidst the beauty of nature. He also embraced adventure, skiing, hiking, and exploring the diverse landscapes of Europe.

 

Dr. Hofmann cherished his roots and maintained close ties with his family in Austria, including his brothers Norbert and Raimund. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margarete, and his second wife of fifty years, Helene.

 

He is survived by his children, Christine (Hans Werner) Weisskircher, Stephan, and Michael, of Igel, Germany; Richard (Kimm) Keegan, and Davin, of Salmon Arm, BC; Andrew, Torin, and Justin, of De Winton, AB; and Bernard (Karen) Matias, and Emila, of Rossland, BC; as well as his stepchildren, Philip (Valerie) Hambrooke of Sundre, AB, and Donna (Eldon) McClellan of Calgary, AB. He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Dr. Rudolph Franz Hofmann will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, boundless generosity, and love for his family and community. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

 

A celebration of Dr. Hofmann's life will be held at a later date. He donated generously to numerous charities over the years; to honour this, the family asks that if friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
