Gilbert Pike

Obituary of Gilbert Pike

January 6, 1954 – Dundee, Scotland

June 8, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Gilbert Pike, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Gilbert, or Gil, as he was known by most, was raised in Dundee, Scotland, where he became a tool and die maker by trade. He married Veronica Peter, on March 31, 1973. Due to a series of strikes that occurred at his company, Timex, impacting his ability to have gainful employment, Gilbert and Veronica moved to greener pastures in Canada to seek a better life for their new young family. They never looked back, making Calgary their forever home.

Gil worked at Standens, Amtek, and Dynacast/SPM, where he made many lifelong friends. When he was not working, Gil devoted time to many other active pursuits beyond his time with his family. He was an avid and respected coach within the Calgary soccer community, including supporting his own sons’ teams when they played. He did much volunteering, and it was known that Gil would give you the shirt off his back. Not only did he support people, but four-legged animals too, through organizations such as Almost Home, Pause4Change, the Calgary Humane Society, and the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS). He also enjoyed decades of camping, having once been a part of 4X4 community through Willy’s Jeep Club of Calgary. Most recently, he was a regular attendee of rodeos both big and small. Gil lived a full life. He was a fun and loving person.

Gil is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Veronica Pike; two children, Steven Pike (Erin), and Christopher Pike (Linda); two grandchildren, Ainsley and Euan Pike; and sister Nancy (Anderson). Gil was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Margeret (Mackie), and Betty (Pearson).
