Dear Erwin, Paula, Rebecca and Jason, Our deepest condolences on the passing of your Mom/Oma. I will always remember Tante Trude as a kind and sweet lady. A wonderful childhood memory of mine was being invited to Tante Trude and Onkel Erwin’s cottage one summer. I loved playing on the shoreline with my cousin Erwin, catching catfish and going out on the boat for fishing and learning to waterski. One day I came into the cottage from our shoreline explorations with my legs covered in leeches. If she was horrified, as I can only imagine, she did not show it. Tante Trude was very reassuring and calmly removed them all with dashes of salt. I also have fond memories of visiting their house in Hamilton, and especially loved their beautiful garden, which inspires me to this day. I also will remember Tante Trude for her amazing “Trüffel Torte” recipe, one of my favourites, which was passed on to me by my Mom.
