Obituary of Mona Jean Hannaford

January 15, 1944 – Dodsland, Saskatchewan

July 1, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Mona Jean McGrath Hannaford, beloved wife of Glen Hannaford, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the age of 80 years.

Mona was born in Dodsland, SK, on January 15, 1944. She grew up on the family farm south of Dodsland. After graduating high school, she studied at St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Saskatoon, completing her education in 1964. Discovering that shift work did not suit her, she returned to school for a University of Saskatchewan Diploma in Teaching in Schools of Nursing. A lifelong learner, Mona furthered her education at the University of Alberta, earning her BSc in Nursing in 1974. She treasured her relationships as a St. Paul’s Hospital alumna and continued to keep in touch with many friends from her years in teaching and nursing.

Mona was deeply spiritual and volunteered with both Holy Spirit Parish and St. Gerard’s. She and Glen found joy in raising their children and cherished their yearly family vacations to “The Lake” near Invermere, BC. One of Mona’s other passions was genealogy, to which she devoted a great amount of time and research. The pictures and life details she collected are a testament to her love of family and preserving history.

Besides her loving husband, Mona is survived by her daughter Breanne and son James, who both reside in Calgary. She is also survived by her brother Arnold, and her sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Brian, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mona was predeceased by her parents, Margaret Anne and John Thomas McGrath, and her brother Ron McGrath.
