Obituary of Horacio Luis Felix Sessarego

December 3, 1954 – Tandil City, Buenos Aires, Argentina

July 11, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Horacio Sessarego, beloved husband of Cecilia Sessarego (née Aguilar), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 69 years.

Horacio was born in Tandil City, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 3, 1954. He moved to the capital, Buenos Aires, when he was 9 years old, where he attended high school and university. He received his Bachelor and PhD degrees in Geological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He married Cecilia in 1982. Horacio, Cecilia, and their two children, Sebastian and Sabrina, immigrated to Canada in 1989. Matias was born in Calgary the same year.

Horacio’s ancestors were from Genoa, Italy, and he inherited the Genovese explorer spirit. He had several adventures during his career as a geologist, which led him to work and live in Canada, Mexico, China, Malaysia, India, and Ecuador. The family had the opportunity to visit and experience the history and culture of these places and to share many adventures.

Horacio enjoyed photography, kayaking in Alberta lakes, and riding his bike in Fish Creek. He also taught his three children downhill skiing.  Horacio was always planning for a better future for his family, as when they moved to Canada from Argentina, and by offering guidance to his children. Horacio will be most remembered for his generous spirit and sense of humour.

Besides his loving wife Cecilia, Horacio is survived by his three children, Sebastian, Sabrina, and Matias; his son-in-law, Paul, granddaughters, Emilia and Ana; and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia, of Calgary. He is also survived by his two sisters, Graciela and Griselda; nephews, Guido and Stefano; extended family, and many friends, all of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Horacio had many friends from his travels to Italy and in various countries from his years as a geologist.

Funeral services were held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Banister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, July 19, 2024.
