Condolences
Here are some of my stories about Auntie Chris:
Graduation
When I graduated from the UBC School of Architecture, mom invited Auntie Chris to attend my graduation ceremony. It was a hot, stuffy day in Vancouver and it was taking a long time to get through the program. But Auntie Chris endured the heat of a musty Gymnasium. I really appreciated that Auntie Chris was able to be there, as invitations were limited to 2 per family, and dad was not able to attend.
Golfing
One year, two of my work colleagues were interested in playing the Hamptons Golf course. So on one Stampede Parade Day, Auntie Chris got us a tee time. We enjoyed the scenery but we all got into trouble on the challenging course. But sure enough, Auntie Chris, the tiny dynamo impressed with her golfing savy. My colleagues with amazement remarked…”Boy your Aunt Chris can sure hit a consistent, straight ball!”
Regina
Carolyn told me that in 1986, Dad, Mom and her went to visit Harvey, Chris and Calvin in Regina. Auntie Chris was really excited to show everyone around.
“We have this big, brand new grocery store with long, wide aisles, a large produce section and shelves stocked as high as the sky! Let me take you there! She proceeded to drive everyone to Regina’s first Real Canadian Superstore. Upon arrival, Carolyn tried not to steal her thunder but had to respond: “Auntie Chris, we already have 5 of those in Edmonton…” They all had a great laugh.
East Village
After Alex and I got married, we purchased a townhouse in the Calgary’s East Village to experience living in the inner city. We were excited to share our news with Auntie Chris but she was obviously flabbergasted.
”Why in the h, e, double hockey sticks would you want to move there?” She thought East Village was like war torn Lebanon. Needless to say, once she visited we got the “Chris Jim Seal of Approval”.
Poised
But if you were looking for a single word to describe Auntie Chris, I think that word would be “poised”.
She was so calm and self assured. Combine that with her intelligence, sense of humour and her love of family and friend, and we can all say with great love and appreciation, Auntie Chris, thanks for the guidance and memories! Rest in Peace!
Christine was a kind and energetic lady, always a pleasure to be around. She will be greatly missed.
For the last 20 years, we had many opportunities to meet up with Mrs. Jim while visiting Calvin, Jenn and family. We enjoyed her wittiness, her stories which included golfing, her “shopping” sprees, and of course funny stories about Calvin! She was such a petite lady but had oh so much spunk! We hope to have just as much spunk when we reach our golden years!
We were very saddened to hear of Aunt Chris' passing. Although we did not live in the same city as Chris, whenever we visited her she was always a cheerful, kind and most enjoyable person to be around. We shared many common interests of golf, travelling and her "shopping outings" Our heartfelt condolences to the family and may the many wonderful memories of Chris hold a very special place in our hearts.
Susan & Paul Uchikata and Family
We met Chris through Kotobuki kai and although we didn't know her for a long time - it was always a pleasure to see her as she was always so pleasant and friendly. She was a special lady and sounds like she had some amazing travels and good times throughout her lifetime. Our sincere condolences go out to all her family and relatives.
Fran & Len Esler
We first met Chris at Kotobuki kai and thereafter often joined her at casinos. Even in her 80's, she went scuba diving on holidays and heard she was an excellent swimmer.
An excellent bridge player, we enjoyed playing the game with her.
Always smiling, she was a joy to know.
When we moved to our present residence two yrs. ago ,she made the effort to visit us.
She was an inspiration to all of us. We will truly miss her.
May her family and friends cherish great memories of her.
With condolences, Bill and Kay Toyota
We have lost a very special lady for Chris was a happy, super knowledgeable and a well travelled person with a memory like an elephant to relay stories.
She treasured her Calvin and his family and as friends we shared great times with both Chris's and Harvey's relatives. She was generous to share her time shares in Vegas and we had a lot of fun experiences together. We will all miss her dearly and extend our sadness to her family and relatives. We are grateful to have had her here with us for such a long time.
