Born in Vancouver, BC, Christine grew up on Powell Street with her seven older siblings; four brothers and three sisters. During World War II, she was interned with her family in Slocan, BC. After the war, she moved with her family to Regina, SK, where she finished high school, and later studied nursing with the Grey Nuns. She eventually made her way to Toronto, where she met Harvey Jim at a house party. They married in 1962 and moved many times, finally settling in Calgary, where they retired.
During her life, Christine enjoyed many hobbies, including golf, bridge, reading, and bingo. She also enjoyed going to the Kotobuki-Kai and having lunch with her friends. However, nothing compared to her love of “shopping” (read: going to the casino) and she visited Las Vegas many times. She also loved to travel. She took safaris in Africa, cruised to St. Petersburg and Easter Island, hiked Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu, and of course, enjoyed the colourful maple trees in Kyoto, Japan.
Christine was predeceased by her husband Harvey, her parents, Zenya and Harue; and her siblings, Yoshiko Matsuoka, Tom Tetsuro Hori, Dorothy Hanako Uchikata, Peter Hideo Hori, Robert Eizo Hori, Mary Kazuko Hori, and Frank Hiroshi Hori.
