Obituary of Linda Janet Fox-Mellway

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Linda Janet Fox-Mellway (Nee Fox), who died peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.
Linda was born on October 23, 1947, in Toronto, ON, to George William and Joan Marianne Fox. She moved to Calgary in the Spring of 1974 and quickly made Calgary her home. Linda was a very capable and independent woman who was devoted to her family, friends, and community. She served as Director and President of the Lake Bonavista Community Association for seven years and then moved on to serve a larger part of Calgary as Alderman for Ward 14 on the Calgary City Council from 1995-2010. Linda also served on the Stampede Board, the board for the Calgary Public Library, and was instrumental in the acquisition of land for the Calgary Arts Academy.
Linda had a passion for volunteering. She was awarded the Governor General's Commemorative Medal and the Alberta Centennial Silver Medal in recognition of her significant volunteer contributions, as well as an Outstanding Service Award from the Calgary Public Library for her extraordinary efforts.
Linda loved gardening and created a beautiful oasis in her backyard, where she loved hosting family and friends for get-togethers. She was also a devoted and proud mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her daughter Sydney and is survived by her son Kyle Mellway (Gabrielle), three grandchildren, Owen, Emilia and Danni; siblings, Brian Fox (Ray), Carolyn Fox, Lloyd Fox (Barbara), and Albert Fox; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Linda had a way of making everyone feel special and important to her, and her light will truly be missed. Linda’s family would like to express a deep gratitude and appreciation for all the messages of condolence, support & prayers. A private Celebration of Life will be held in the coming days.
