Obituary of James Garfield Murphy
November 16, 1943 – Montreal, Quebec
September 16, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Murphy, on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the age of 80 years young. Jim is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years Jan, and their two children, daughter Mallorie (Mike Sauve) and son Michael (Jessica). He is also lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren, Jayce and Sadie King, and James and Tanner Murphy. Jim is also survived by his sister Barbara (Bim Hazel) of Nova Scotia. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Born on November 16, 1943, Jim grew up in St. Laurent, QC. Dubbed as loyal and protective as they come, he was always surrounded by a strong group of friends who never deviated from ‘The Pact’. Always a strong student in school, he was known throughout the city for his leadership on and off the field. Going as far as being drafted by the Montreal Alouettes, all while attending McGill University, and graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974.
In 1975, Jim was transferred west for a job opportunity and found himself quickly falling in love with the city, and more importantly the Rocky Mountains, where anyone could find him carving his way down the slopes every weekend. He moved his soon to be wife (Jan) to Calgary from Ontario where they went on to begin multiple businesses in the Oil & Gas industry, which grew into their legacy.
Rest In Peace Jim, JG, Jimmy, Surfer, Daddy, Pops, Poppa, and all you were to all of us.
You will live forever in our hearts.
