Obituary of Linda Gail Wyatt

July 26, 1954 – Hamilton, Ontario

October 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Linda Gail Wyatt (nee Robertson), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at the age of 70 years. Despite a rare and aggressive cancer diagnosis, she met every medical challenge with positivity and strength, living life to the fullest.

Linda is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dave, children, Andrew (Alison) of Brisbane, Australia, and Emily (Ryan Bancroft) of Calgary, AB; and her two cherished granddaughters, Evelyn (8 years) and Nanette (1.5 years). She is also survived by her siblings, Karen, Barb, and Bruce. Linda was predeceased by her parents Shirley and “Robbie” Robertson. 

Born in Hamilton, ON, Linda grew up in Streetsville, ON, and loved spending her summers at her grandmother's cottage in Grand Bend, a tradition she maintained every summer, sharing these special memories with her children and grandchildren. After nursing school in London, ON, she moved to Trail, BC, where she started her nursing career at Trail Regional Hospital.  She married Dave in 1980 then welcomed Andrew in 1983, and Emily in 1985.

A move to Calgary, AB, followed in 1991, leaving behind many friends and fond memories of Trail, BC. Linda loved being a nurse and spent the last 20-plus years working at Senior South Homecare where she developed many lasting friendships. 

An accomplished runner, Linda finished nine marathons, including the incredible achievement of qualifying and running the Boston Marathon, twice. You could regularly find her training on the Glenmore Reservoir, and then enjoying a coffee and a muffin with her friends. She made lifelong friends in her running group, and they travelled to many different races all over North America together.

Linda was adventurous and loved to travel. She went to Australia regularly but also visited Southeast Asia twice, hiked the Inca Trail, the West Coast Trail, and the Great Ocean Road. She loved to escape Calgary every winter for somewhere warm with Dave. Despite her diagnosis, she was recently able to enjoy a final trip to England and Egypt.

A loving mom and grandma, she always made holidays so special, and we will pass on these traditions to her grandchildren. She was an incredibly supportive, selfless, and patient mom, and we were so lucky to have her.

We will think of Linda all the time, especially when enjoying any of her favourite things like golfing, hiking, walking, travelling, retail therapy, or watching a sunset at the cottage with a glass of wine. 

We would like to thank her amazing team of doctors and staff at Unit 93/94 of Rockyview General Hospital and Southwood Hospice for keeping her with us as long as possible and providing compassionate care. Thank you as well to Dr. Street, Dr. Hardin, and Dr. Herd for their exceptional care and kind words over the last few months.  Special thanks to dear friends, Holly and Terry Kemp, Janet and Kent Hamilton, and Pat and Duane Tritter, for their friendship and support.
