Obituary of Patricia Anne Finn
January 22, 1956 – Calgary, Alberta
October 25, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Nancy Finn, daughter of Frank and Pat Finn, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 25, 2024. She is survived by her brother, John Finn; her partner of 20 years Cliff Sims; and her niece Katie Finn.
Nancy began riding horses at the young age of three at the family ranch Southwest of Calgary, AB. By the age of six, she was competing in horse shows and riding in the Stampede Parade. As she grew older, she was competing all over Western Canada, and in the state of Washington. When Spruce Meadows opened in 1975, it became her favorite horse show. Later she began to volunteer at Spruce Meadows at their horse shows and then as the leader of hospitality for their Name the Foal contest winners.
A volunteer at the Calgary Stampede, she was on the Horse Show Committee, and then on the Reception Committee working in the Blue Room hosting volunteers during the Stampede. She was also working full-time with Air Canada working at the airport and then later, working in the main office, coordinating the flights for Calgary sporting teams traveling to away games. Her working career ended when she contracted a serious illness, but her volunteering lasted for many more years.
Fortunately, in 2003 at their 30th high school reunion she met up with Cliff Sims, and he became the love of her life and the best partner she ever had.
Together they traveled to Cancun, Mexico every winter for a vacation in the sun, and then later in the winter they would go skiing at their favorite resort in Kimberley, BC. In the summers they would go to the southern Okanagan, BC to relax in the sun.
As her health became more troublesome, Cliff was always there to help her, even when she became somewhat difficult to help.
He was there for her right to the end of her life's journey. Rest in peace, Nancy.
