Obituary of Kevin David Head
July 20, 1957 – Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec
November 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Kevin Head, the beloved husband of Diana Head (nee Dunphy) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the age of 67 years.
Kevin was born in Rouyn-Noranda, QC, on July 20, 1957. At the age of six months, his family moved back to Buchans, NL, where he grew up.
In 1979, Kevin met Diana. They married in 1981, and for the next 45 years, they were partners, best friends, and soulmates, raising three incredible children along the way.
Kevin graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1980 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. With Diana, he moved to Edmonton, AB, to begin work with Texaco (and watch his beloved Edmonton Oilers in person).
In 1988, Kevin and Diana moved to Texaco’s office in Lloydminster, AB. In 1990, Imperial Oil purchased Texaco, and they moved to Bonnyville, AB. Kevin was very excited about working in the Cold Lake Heavy Oil Facility. After ten wonderful years in Bonnyville, the family moved to Calgary, AB, in 2000.
He was a member of APEGA until his retirement in 2016. In 2015, he became a member of the Hamptons Golf Course in Calgary and spent every summer since golfing with fellow members, the Monday Snips, and Men’s Seniors. In addition to golf, he was passionate about model trains and delighted in allowing his children and grandchildren to run the engines in his train room. He was deeply sentimental, and every winter break between Christmas and New Year’s he would re-watch the BBC Pride and Prejudice and would quote incessantly from the novels.
Kevin enjoyed travel with his family, from family trips to West Edmonton Mall to New York City, USA, Hawaii, USA, and Ireland. He enjoyed the yearly golf trips to Las Vegas, USA, with Diana.
Family always came first for Kevin. Whether it was coaching Little League, skiing at Kinisoo Ridge, or teaching to parallel park, he was always there for them. The joy of his life was being a grandpa, and he devoted countless hours every week to time with his grandchildren. Kevin was most happy when his family was close.
Besides his loving wife, Kevin is survived by his son, David Head (Sarah), and daughters, Jennifer Head and Mary Sampson (Lance) of Calgary, AB. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Rhohan (David), Claire, Lucy, and Jacob (Mary). He is also survived by his brother, Bob (Janet) of Newfoundland, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and beloved friends.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Kevin and Ruie Head of Buchans, NL.
