Obituary of Catherine Amy Roney

October 22, 1936 - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

December 4, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

 

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Catherine Amy Roney B.Ed., B.A., an educator, writer, cherished friend and beloved aunt, who left this world on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the age of 88.

 

She was predeceased by her parents Isabella Young and James Roney and her older brother Rev. John A. Roney (Frances Hubbard). Catherine was survived by her nephews Paul Roney (Joanne Wright) and David Roney, her niece Mary Anderson and great-nephews Colin Anderson (Helen Song) and Trevor Anderson.

 

Catherine graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1958 and started her teaching career at the Biggar Composite High School. She then taught in Saskatoon before moving to Calgary in the early ’60s where she taught at Viscount Bennett, Bishop Pinkham and Crescent Heights High Schools before retiring in 1991. Catherine was a creative writer and a member of the Calgary Writers’ Guild. She was a long-time resident of Wildwood and a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Catherine more recently moved to Cambridge Manor.

 

Thanks to Dr. Jamal and the staff at Cambridge Manor, the staff of Senior Homecare by Angels, Dr. Mutch and the staff on Foothills Ward 72 and all of her friends who have been there to help her in the last year.

 

Cremation has occurred. A memorial service celebrating Catherine's life will be held in the spring.
