Obituary of Kathleen Grace CROWE
March 18, 1923 – London, England
July 6, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta
Kathleen Grace Crowe of Calgary passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the age of 91 years.
As a young woman in England during WWII, Kathy was a member of the Women’s Land Army, working on farms in place of the men that had gone off to war. Near the end of the war she met Allan, a Canadian soldier, they married and Kathy left her native land for her new home in Canada.
After raising her children, Kathy finally made time for herself taking up various hobbies such as painting, paper tole and working on the family tree. Kathy was also an active member of the Alberta War Brides Society where she and Allan thoroughly enjoyed many years of fun and friendships. In retirement Kathy and Allan enjoyed various trips to England and two trips driving their old orange VW campervan to Nova Scotia and back. Family meant everything to Kathy and after Allan passed on she gladly welcomed a younger generation of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to live with her. She always cherished family being close by.
Kathy was a great wife and mother who enjoyed the simple things in life, the greatest being the company and love of her family.
She is survived by her daughter Allana DeAzevedo (Tony); and her sons, Robert (Sharon) and Richard (Monica). Kathy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Canada and England.
Kathy was predeceased by her two sisters in England, Doreen and Winifred; infant son Robert Allan Crowe; her daughter Linda Margaret McMurter; and her husband of fifty-four years, Thomas Allan Crowe.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd (408 – 38th Street S.W.) on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, Kathy’s wishes were for any memorial tributes to be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 Telephone: (403) 205-3966, email donorservices@cancer.ab.ca. The family would like to thank the Alberta Health Services palliative care givers who assisted Kathy with home care and the doctors, nurses and care givers of the Sarcee Hospice for their kindness in administering comfort and care in Kathy’s last days. Kathy was also very fortunate to have the 24/7 care and attention of her daughter Allana during her last few months.
In living memory of Kathleen Crowe, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
