Dwayne Warkentin

Obituary of Dwayne Harvey Warkentin

June 25, 1956 Stettler, Alberta

January 5, 2025 Calgary, Alberta

Dwayne Warkentin, beloved husband of Michelle Warkentin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the age of 68 years, surrounded by his loving family.

Dwayne was born on June 25, 1956, in Stettler, AB. The family moved to Red Deer when Dwayne was a young teen, where he attended Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. He later graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology's (SAIT) Petroleum Engineering Technology program in Calgary, AB.

His petroleum engineering training offered opportunities for Dwayne to travel around the globe, fulfilling his dreams and love of culture, language, and knowledge. Learning, studying, and immersing himself in the oil and gas community gave Dwayne the opportunity to embrace his curiosity about other cultures and countries, creating deep friendships with colleagues around the world. He had a special bond with Argentina, working there for many years and learning to speak fluent Spanish, becoming a Canadian Argentine at heart.

Dwayne was a family man! Always putting his family first, he engaged his family in his love of travel and culture, with the family living in Yorktown, New York for two years, and three years in Jakarta, Indonesia. His family carries the rich experiences they all shared to this day and how fortunate they were to have such amazing adventures together. Dwayne loved being with his family, and they always came first. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his heart. He volunteered with activities when the children were young and was always their best cheerleader, always available for support and advice, and to share what knowledge he had. Dwayne shared close relationships with his siblings and was always so proud of them, and he loved his parents dearly. He also dearly loved his dog, Ben.

He was a man of deep integrity and was patient, kind, always supportive, and wise. He understood the world in all its wondrous ways and was forever curious about how everything worked. With his love of family and friends, he created a circle around him and held that love to his last breath.

Dwayne loved fishing, riding his motorcycle, hiking, skiing, and more recently, e-biking.

He is survived by his loving wife Michelle, son Sheldon (Janine), daughter Megan (Dan), and son Brock (Danielle); six grandchildren, Lilah, Nolan, Theodore, Evangeline, Maya, and Josephine; brother Reg Warkentin, and sisters, Holly Speer and Dawn Warkentin. Dwayne was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Bernice Warkentin.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the oncology teams at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the palliative team, and Dulcina Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

“I love you all so much and will miss you all so much”

 - Dwayne Warkentin
