Obituary of Gertrude Gerda Elizabeth RUBENS

1930 –2014 Our beloved mother, Gerda passed away suddenly on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 83 years. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus. Gerda was born in Schmelz-dorf, Germany. She met her future husband, Bernard Ruben in Germany following the war. They immigrated to Canada in the mid-1950s and married in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Gerda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. “I love you. Thank you children, family and friends, for all your prayers, strength, love and kindness throughout the years. Peace be with you all, now and always.” Gerda was an industrious woman, supporting her family by various vocations. Her passions were horses, nature and the beautiful flowers of spring. She captured award-winning photographs of birds in spring, along with the flower of a summer rose. Gerda is survived by her loving children, nieces and nephews, two sisters, a brother and numerous relatives in Germany. She was predeceased by her husband, two sisters and her parents. “Till we meet again.” A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
