Condolences
Trevor and I offer our deepest condolences to the family. We know Rob and Virgie and had no idea that this happened in the family until watching the newscast where Rob made his statement. Totally shocking. We are so sorry for the family.
Dear Laura,
I’ve just learned of this terrible tragedy and my heart aches for you at this time. I hope that you find peace among your family and friends in Calgary. My thoughts are with you,
Brigid
To Danielle, Laura and the Carlson Family:
Our sincere condolences to all of you at this time. Danielle, I remember so well the days when you were dancing with Jen at Dynamic. I always think of your smiling little face when I hear “Little Bitty Pretty One”. I was grateful to have met, worked bingos and spent time with your parents. You are all some of the nicest people anyone could ever meet. I have always held your parents in such high regard and I wanted you to know that.
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you at this difficult time.
The Breneol Family
To Danielle and family,
We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear of your loss. We have very fond memories of your parents during the hockey years. They were two wonderful, caring people who will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Sharon and Katelyn Knowles
Carlson family, friends and colleagues,
It is with deep sadness, sympathy and disbelief that we find ourselves avowing our heartfelt condolences in saying farewell to Roxanne and Don. Roxanne always offered her most sincere and skilled best to her clients, and she always provided a breath of optimism, sensitivity and support in her interactions with friends and colleagues. Alongside her dear husband and father of their children, Roxanne’s genuine and enduring presence will be sorrowfully missed.
Ken & Pat
Carlson family, friends and colleagues,
It is with deep sympathy, regret and disbelief that we find ourselves mourning the loss of Roxanne and Don. Roxanne always provided her skillful best in advocating and caring for her clients, and she always provided a breath of optimism and humour in providing support and sincere kindness in her interactions with friends and colleagues. Alongside her dear husband and father of their children, Roxanne’s genuine nature and enduring spirit will be sorrowfully missed.
Ken & Pat
Danielle and family, words seem so inadequate to say how deeply saddened we are about the loss of your wonderful parents. They represented the very best of what we should all strive to be. They will be dearly missed by all who knew them.
Kathy, Bill and Madison Duffin
We had the pleasure and honor of working with Roxanne at Spruce Cliff School as well as at Wildwood School. We remember Roxanne as a warm and friendly presence who never failed to provide a listening ear or an encouraging word. She talked about her own children and about how proud she was of them. She talked about how she wanted to work less so she could spend more time with family, and about the students that we all shared. Her goal was always and only to do her very best for them, to understand their strengths and help them build on their weaknesses. She spoke to parents, teachers and children alike with respect, humor, kindness and compassion. Roxanne understood how to be gentle, how to deliver difficult news with grace, and how to instill hope no matter what the circumstance. She touched many lives and we couldn’t be happier that she touched ours.
We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
Jodi Gillespie and Lauri Los
Dear Rick,
May you find strength from family and friends in the most difficult of times. May the many happy memories stay close to your heart and comfort you and your family. Our thoughts are with you. Corinne was privileged to know Roxanne through the CBE. It’s such a small world – she didn’t know Roxanne was your sister. Corinne is so glad for the fine work Roxanne accomplished at the school she works at. Roxanne left a remarkable legacy there.
The Sandhurst Family (Geoff, Corinne, Caelin and Kierra)
To the Carlson family, my sincere heartfelt sympathy goes out to you in the face of this profoundly tragic and incomprehensible loss. Over the years, Roxanne worked in different capacities and some of her roles in the CBE brought her into contact with the COPE team which I am a part of. Roxanne was just lovely; she was so very pleasant, calm, and always greeted you with a warm smile. Roxanne really understood the huge difficulties some students experience and the many complexities in their lives and the resulting impacts to their learning and school experience. In the toughest situations she would be able to offer supportive recommendations to help the student. She was a pleasure to work with and to be around, she will be truly missed. May your whole family be embraced by the love and support of each other and your friends, so you are able to get through this incredibly difficult loss. One day at a time…..
Mark Reckord
To the Carlson Family,
My sincere condolences for your loss. I had the privilege of being coached by Don in hockey growing up when I played with Danielle. Roxanne’s presence around the arena was also felt when she was around (which was very often). They were both amazing people and always had a smile on their faces. They affected many people in a positive manner throughout the community and will be missed greatly.
Kevin King
Graig, Laura, Danielle (and the rest of the Carlson and Watson families)
The untimely passing of Don and Roxanne has left a huge hole in all of our lives. We spent many hours visiting with them over the years and the one theme that ran through all of them was how proud they were of you.
We hope that memories of the many happy times you shared with them will help ease the pain of their loss.
Jed and Betty Cochrane

We are deeply saddened by your tragic loss and send our heartfelt condolences. Mario and I have fond memories of Roxanne from our younger years visiting with her at my Aunt Mary’s family gatherings. In later years, we felt a continued connection through Isabel, Ernie and Joyce’s proud accounts of Roxanne’s accomplishments as a devoted mom, daughter, care giver to Joyce and her dedicated work as a teacher and psychologist. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Adriana, Wayne and Mario
Danielle and family,
We are so saddened to hear of your parents passing. In the roles we shared as coaches and parents all through the years we were bound by the joy of all the times spent together. Your parents were wonderful and great people.
Danielle, I will cherish our little reunion last summer when we saw each other at your Dad’s work. A lot of smiles and memories while catching up with both you and your dad. He and your mom were warm and loving people.
With our deepest sympathies,
Kevin, Sarah, Chris and Alex Drake
To the Carlson family:
Please accept my condolences on the tragic loss of Don and Roxanne. I was privileged to know Roxanne as a highly-valued colleague at the Calgary Board of Education. She cared deeply about her work, and the impact it made on the students in her care. I will always remember her as generous in spirit, exceptionally committed to her work, and loved by all of her colleagues. My thoughts and prayesr are with all of you at this challenging time.
Brendan Croskery (Chief Superintendent: retired)

I’m so sorry to hear the news. I got word while in Sochi covering the Olympics. I didn’t know Don and Roxanne’s family but Don was always there when I went into Albern Coin. To Kevin, Susan and Rob as well the rest of the family, my thoughts are with you at this time. James Cowling

Carlson Family.
We are devastated by the loss of Don and Roxanne and we wish you our heart felt condolences .We had the priviledge of knowing them through our mutual involvement in hockey. They were regularly discribed as generous , caring and involved. They elevated our hockey adventures and gave graciously of their time.
We will miss them greatly and think of them fondly…often.
Jeff and Chris McGinley
This message for the family of Don and Roxanne, but particularly for Danielle. Danielle, it is coach Rob here. I was so saddened to hear of your losses and cannot imagine the grief and confusion you are feeling. Knowing you as a hockey player I know that strength will come to you from family and friends and very good memories, and also from your inner strength which I know is a trait that you have always exhibited. I offer my sincerest condolences. I did not know your mom very well but saw them out walking together very often. Your Dad was very influential to me as a coach, through his patience and calm nature and good humour. I learned the five second rule from him, where I would blow my whistle at practice and hold my hand up and the players would have 5 seconds to get to me or they would need to do 10 pushups, and if they all got there on time I would do 10 pushups. We all learned from each other. I saw him about a month ago as he was visiting his dad at the Rockyview as I was visiting my mother-in-law and we had a great chat. They will both me missed very much.
Be strong.
Rob Cox
Our deepest condolences to your family.
Our thoughts are with you during this most difficult time.

Megan, Jessica, Patsy and Gedd Cantwell
Our deepest sympathy for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
With love Jane & Jim, Uncle Rudi.
I am so sorry for your loss. I knew your mom, dad, daughter, son from the hockey days, starting before children. We had great house parties back then. When it was Don and Roxanne’s turn to host, Roxanne was famous for her ravioli. They loved their families and spoke so highly of them. Everyone that knew Don and Roxane knew what a wonderful, kind, warm couple they were and how much they were truly loved. Will be in our hearts forever.

Kim and I were so deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Don and Roxanne. What a tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Don, you will be deeply missed by the Sharks Hockey Team as we all enjoyed your friendship, humor, wit, and guidance on the ice and in the room. The core has played together for so many years. It was a pleasure for us to meet Roxanne at the various functions the team participated in over the years. Thanks for all your efforts in coaching during the games. These times will be fondly remembered.
God bless.
My thoughts, love, and prayers go out to your entire family. I wish you all strength and hope that the love and support of friends, family, and community help you through.
My warmest thoughts are with you all,

Marion and Thelma
Please accept my heartfelt condolences upon this extremely sad loss. Roxanne had her heart for the community she worked with. She always went the extra mile for our students.
Surprisingly, I met Don at Albern Coins when I took my coin collection to them. He very kindly gave me a blue microfleece piece of cloth to put the coins in till I took them back to him in the Spring. What a great couple. And What a Loss to the whole community.
Warm wishes to their family always,
Almas
I’m very saddened to hear of the passing of your Parents. I had the pleasure of playing hockey with Donny for the past dozen years along with partaking in numerous hockey trips with him. I will miss the after game beers with him and his banter that brought smiles to all.
He was one of the Good guys and he will be missed by all. My thoughts are with you.
To the Watson and Carlson families: I am so saddened to hear of your loss. For some moments in life there are no words. This is one of them, as reason fails to explain the loss of Don and Roxanne. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Much love.
Marilyn Stante
Sometimes there just aren’t any answers, but what we do know is that God sees each tear and understands our need. We trust that at this time His comfort and peace will come and that you will find the strength that you need.
We are sending our love to everyone. Gerry and Betty Bukowicki and Family.
Dear Graig, Laura, Danielle, Eldon, Isabella, Ernie, Joyce and families,
I first met Don playing Midget hockey and our friendship continued to grow while playing hockey and baseball over the years. It was during this time that Joan met Don and Roxanne. We have wonderful memories of fun times together including our Hawaiian trip in 1979 and then watching as our families grew. Special to both Joan and I was when Don and Roxanne agreed to be Jessica’s Godparents. In most recent years we enjoyed occasional chats with Don at the store and looked forward to occasional visits and the annual Christmas letters. Such a loving and warm couple. We are devastated. Joan and I will never forget Don and Roxanne or the joys we shared over many years.
Please know you are all in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. May your memories help you during this difficult time and know that they will always be watching over you.
Much love to all of you.
They will always be in our hearts.
Joan, Wayne and family.
It was with genuine shock and sadness that I first heard of this tragedy.
Although not having contact with Don for many years, he left a lasting impression with me as we often stood side by side, watching our sons play hockey together on Lake Bonavista teams through Atom and Pee Wee levels.
The lasting impression on me: a caring and supportive father, an always generous and welcoming smile, and a true fan of his son and of hockey.
My love and prayers to Graig and the rest of the family.
Ernie, Isabella, Rick & Family…
We are all shocked and deeply saddened to learn of your losses. We are keeping your family close in thought and prayer as you go through this most difficult time.

We enjoyed visiting with Roxanne and Don at all the family events. They were always so interested in what was going on in our lives and it was great to hear what they were doing for work, holidays and with family. Our hearts are with you in this time of deep sadness.
Uncle Tony, Dennis, Ann, Alexandra
Words can not express the sorrow that we feel for all of you. Our daughter had Roxanne for a teacher at Holy Cross School. There will be a great big hole in this world with her gone. It was a great pleasure and privilege to have had her in our life. GOD BLESS and help you through this. RAMONA , RAYMOND AND ETHEL LISELL
May the God of comfort comfort you during this sad time and in the days ahead. I shared an office with Roxanne at Rosscarrock school and admired her compassion, cheerfulness, positive attitude and most of all, kindness. She made a positive difference to adults and children she worked with and will be missed greatly. I recall our conversation when she helped her daughter shop for a graduation dress. She shared photos with me of that happy event where everyone had smiles on their faces – one of thousands of wonderful memories you will treasure forever.
My deepest condolences to your families.
Danielle, We were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of your mom and dad. Words seem inadequate to express our sorrow. We have great memories from hockey – how caring they both were, how easy going. We just saw them both before Christmas and Ed would see your dad walking the dog while he was walking our dog.
There are no answers to comfort your grief, only lasting love and memories. We hope your memories help ease the pain for you and your family.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
DD (Dani),
I’m so sorry to hear about your parents. Sending my love to you and your siblings. Please know my heart is with you and I send you as much healing energy as I can. Please do your best to stay strong. Love you DD. You are a great girl and it’s because you had great parents. Never forget that.

Our hearts goes out to you all as you say good-bye to two wonderful people. Memories of dance years come flooding back as I remember the numerous bingos and casinos worked together. When we went through our own tragedies your family was always there for support. Laura…you were a rock for Lynn. Your kindness has never been forgotten. Your parents gave you all a strong foundation on which to build. You made them proud. Stay strong, hold on to each other and remember the wonderful gift your parents were to you all and to those around them.
Sending our love and support your way.

It is with great respect we knew Don and Roxanne as they were Godparents to our Granddaughter, Jessica (LaRoche). They will always be in our hearts and now God has them in his arms.
God bless you all at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Jack and Jessie
Though it has been well over 10 years since our paths crossed in the CBE, I will never forget how Roxanne made me feel. She always had time for a friendly hello and was such an amazing listener.
Such a tragic loss, indeed. My condolences to all who loved and were loved by her.
Lisa Dunlop
CBE
My best memory of Don was on the ice. He was always there with a smile and a joke. He told me one game that he would see me again in an hour in the dressing room … as he was the goalie and I rarely was in shouting distance of his net. Our sincerest condolences.
To Roxanne and Don’s family,
I work across the hall from the psychologists’ office and had the pleasure of meeting Roxanne. There was a day over this past winter break in which I was the only speech-language pathologist working in the office. Roxanne came across the hall and invited me to join her and the other psychologists to go out for lunch, even though she barely knew me. She was a wonderful woman who exuded warmth and kindness and was always friendly and gracious. I feel grateful for having met her. Sending my deepest condolences to you and your family.
Sincerely, Lana Goldberg
To the Carlson Family:
My deepest sympathy for the loss of Don and Roxanne. I supervised Roxanne’s graduate program in counselling psychology at the University of Calgary. As a mature student, she brought passion and curiosity to her learning and she was clearly interested in making a difference in the lives of children. I remember her carrying boxes full of resources from school to school during her practicum placement so that she could engage children. Roxanne was dedicated to learning more about play therapy and how to spark children’s inner spirit for health and well-being. Roxanne deeply cared about children and it was a pleasure to work with her. As a mother and as a colleague, I offer my condolences.
Our deepest condolences to the Carlson and Watson families.
Don and Roxanne were amazing individuals who always had smiles on their faces, and we were always greeted with those smiles and a hug. They always made us feel like family.
We will miss them terribly but know that they will always be watching over their loved ones.
Dearest Rick, Paula, Isabelle, Ernie and family,
We are very saddened to hear the tragic news of Roxanne and Don.
Our sincerest and deepest condolences to you all for your loss. You and your family are in our prayers. Lots of love and hugs to you all.
We are so sorry to hear the tragic news about Don and Roxanne. They were wonderful people who we got to know when Michael had Don as a hockey coach. Our thoughts are with you and we will never forget your parents.
To Eldon, Kevin, Rob, spouses, and to the children of Don and Roxanne,
We are so sorry to hear the tragic news of a fine couple. We have known the Carlson family for a long time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
To the family of Don and Roxanne,
I had the wonderful opportunity of working with Roxanne when I first joined the COPE team. The compassion and support that Roxanne demonstrated for students was outstanding and it saddens me that students and schools will not have the opportunity to work with her again. I will miss running into her in the hall at the office and connecting with her, I always so enjoyed my conversations with her.
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time,
Salina
Don and Roxanne, your memories will live in our minds forever! Meeting at Gulf Oil, we immediately became best friends which turned into family acquaintances; your three kids along with our three kids. We then started curling together and then I finally convinced you that unorganized hockey was better than the level of hockey you were used to playing! You always told me you hate shinny hockey! Well, you came down to our level and enjoyed the comradery we all enjoyed. You and Roxanne will be dearly missed and for Graig, Laura and Danielle, we send are thoughts and prayers!
Dear Rick , Paula and Families:
We were saddened to learn of the passing of Roxanne and Don.
Our thoughts and heart felt prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time.

Dear Aunty Isabelle, Uncle Ernie, Rick, Graig, Laura, Danielle, Mr. Carlson and Aunty Joyce.
My deepest sympathy is with you and nothing could describe the deep sorrow and emptiness in your hearts. Perhaps the words on these pages can give you some comfort knowing that Roxanne and Don were wonderful and much loved people. Roxanne brought up to me the last time we saw each other about our happy childhood memories, the Christmas’s at Grandma and Grandpa’s, summers at Auntie Annie’s and Uncle Tony’s and summer camp. They say that cousins are your first best friends and that certainly is true. They will be forever loved and deeply missed here, and we know GOD has welcomed them into his arms.
My prayers and Love to you all.
Debbie
Our hearts ache for you and your dear sweet parents. We just saw, hugged and caught up with them at the Matt Anderson concert last Sunday. Your Mom was so excited to see Matt Anderson again! Our love and thoughts are with you and your family.
Love and hugs from us all.
My heartfelt sympathy on the tragic passing of Don and Roxanne. Roxanne was our psychologist at Braeside School while I was principal. We got to know each other very well. Roxanne was a soft spoken, gentle, loving soul and will be missed deeply.
Sending sincere sympathy from relatives from the Delia area. Please know that we will be praying for your family during this time and wishing you God’s comfort and healing.
To Roxanne’s family,
I had the honour of working closely with Roxanne the last 3 years. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed our time together. She would regularly come to my school, where we would plan presentations for staff. Her warmth and kindness came through immediately. What I loved most was the time we spent visiting. She loved her family so much! She always spoke so highly of her children. She has been a mentor for me and was instrumental in me taking graduate courses in children’s mental health. Roxanne touched so many of us! She was extraordinary in so many ways and her loss is felt deeply! My heartfelt sympathies for this tragic, tragic loss…
Karen Lerner

My heart goes out to the friends and family of Don and Roxanne in this difficult time.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear cousins.

Dear Graig, Laura, and Danielle,
I worked with your mother for four years and she was a well loved member of our team. She had such an amazing heart and always had time to listen to our concerns and provide thoughtful advice and wonderful resources to enrich our understanding. She has left a huge footprint in the hearts of her CBE colleagues.
My sincere condolences,
Donna Price
Hello,
I am very sorry for your loss. I had the privilege and honour to work with Roxanne a couple of years ago and it had a significant impact on me. Her way of being with children and adults will be very much missed. I loved her quick smile and caring way, I always knew that when she was listening, she was really listening. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to work with Roxanne, I learned a great deal from her and am sad that our paths won’t cross again.
Hello and condolences from all the people at Adera. While we did not know Don and Roxanne, we have known Kevin and Susan for the 17 months that Kevin has been with Adera as CFO. Kevin and Susan have fit into the Adera culture very well and we value them as important members of our “Adera Family” We will all say a prayer for Don and Roxanne and the family and hope that the future will bring better times for the family. God bless.
I knew your Mom over a number of years when I worked within the CBE. Although I never worked closely with her, on all meetings she was gracious and interested. She was a very gentle and loving soul and very warm-hearted. She will be missed.
Graig, Laura and Danielle, Aunt Isabell, Uncle Ernie, Rick and family along with Juicer
Please know that you are all continuously in our hearts and prayers. Roxanne and Don were unbelievable, fun and caring people. From helping out with our family reunions to all they accomplished at work. They will forever be missed but will never be forgotten.
Hello,
I had the great honour of working with Roxanne as part of the Student Health Partnership.
She was a gentle, caring and genuine person who was a wonderful advocate for the needs of children. She had a lovely and considerate way of listening, made wise contributions when she spoke and was always quick to smile or welcome everyone into the room. Her warmth was unforgettable.
I am terribly sad about the loss of Roxanne as a colleague, and as a helper to the children she served so well.
Please know that my heart is with your family at this unspeakably difficult time.
-Willow
