Condolences
Dear Al and Family,
We tender our condolences, in the context of memories of long ago in the middle of Australia. Memories of Lois are of essence now, and it’s comforting to know they are so endearing and durable.
With our sympathy,
The Horton Family

Al, Shannon, Sandy and family,
We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Lois. What a wonderful, caring person. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew her.
We were lucky enough to know Lois through the Cascade Swim Club where she was very active volunteering and supporting Sandy and Shannon. I had the privilege of chaperoning a couple of swim trips with her. What fun! She was a great mentor to a newbie swim parent.
And post swimming, we were able to keep in touch at the dental office. I was always so happy to hear news about the family!
Our thoughts are with all of you,
Patti and Garry Doody
Al, Shannon, Sandy and family,
I was very upset to hear about “Aunty” Lois passing away. She was such a terrific beautiful woman and growing up seeing you guys was always such a treat. I don’t think I can ever remember seeing her angry , well maybe annoyed with you Al but that is about it (you would invariably laugh as you do and she would just get on with it!) I have great memories of spending time with Lois up at our cabin in particular and will always remember when I came home to be with mom for the last time, she was a great comfort to me. My wife Tania hasn’t had the luxury of spending much time in Canada and never met Carol, however she did get to meet Lois and was blown away by her warmth and efforts to make us feel at home….so I’ve always felt that was a pretty great alternative. Needless to say she was very upset to hear the news even having only meet her very briefly. So….just wanted to let you guys know we are thinking of you and sending our love. Take care,Rick Tania and Lauren. – Wellington New Zealand.
Dear Al,
A very bright light has gone out for us all, but especially so for you and your family. We offer you all our sympathy on your great loss.
Our memories of Lois remain so vivid. We first met Lois in 1968 when we came to live in Alice Springs with our young daughters, Janelle (2) and baby Margot (and the big black dog Kim who I’m sure you remember so well!). We were so privileged to have wonderful times with you and Lois on numerous occasions, and particularly remember that Lois loved to cook Spare Ribs- we still use her recipe.
Lois was there to farewell us all at the airport in 1969 when we left The Alice to go off to Stanford in California where our family expanded with the birth of our son Matthew in 1972. We moved on to live in Toronto from 1974 to 1980 and had the pleasure of journeying to Owen Sound to meet up with Lois and her beloved parents Jack and Goldie. I still very clearly remember what Lois was wearing that day — her denim pinafore, pink T-shirt and pink bandana. Lois was such a memorably beautiful lady.
Your beautiful Lois was truly a wonderful lady who left all who met her the better for the meeting. We were blessed to have known her as a life-long friend.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love
Denis and Pam Clarke
Dear Al,Jessie, Chuck and families,
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Lois. A long, brave fight that has sadly ended. We often think of the wonderful hospitality you showed us when we visited you in Calgary in 2002. You didn’t know us but treated us like old friends. R.I.P. Lois. Jenny and Chas Brodie-Hall. Esperance, Western Australia.
Dear Al, Sandy and Shannon,
I was so sad to hear of your loss.
Lois has always had a special place in my heart, she was such a beautiful person in every way.
I treasure the memories of those times we spent together in Alice Springs when our kids were born and growing up; meeting Jack and Goldie and visiting them in Owen Sound; and coming to Calgary with Denis and Naomi, Rachel and Anthony. What fun we had.
Albert joins me in sending you our loving thoughts,
Miranda
Dear Al Sandy and Shannon
No matter how much death is anticipated, when it’s final, there’s no response but tears. There’s no tears in heaven though, except the ones shed here on earth and God keeps those in His bottle. None are wasted Psalm 56:8
Although we didn’t spend a lot of time with Lois in these last years, times we did spend were enough to know what a treasure she was.
May you be comforted knowing that you were faithful, loving, and steadfast in your care for her.
‘Sad for your broken hearts… loving you….Barry and Pat
My heartfelt sympathy to all the family. Your kindness & thoughtfulness made the world a better place.
Peg and I are very saddened by your loss. We send our prayers to you and your family. May the Lord’s presence provide comfort and care to you all.
Walt and Peg
Al, Sandy, Shannon,
Lois held a special place in my heart. Like many, I was touched by her generosity and thoughtfulness when I lived with her and Al 17 years ago. And while my time was only a couple of months, it was a great time. Meals together, a few rounds of golf with Al and Lois’ sweet, motherly advice as I was trying to find my way in life. When you think of Lois, words like warmth, generous, thoughtful, sweet, strong, giving are a few that come to mind. However, it is the word strength that stands out to me. To fight as long and as hard as Lois did is another testament to her resolve. There is comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. You were all blessed to have Lois as a wife, mother and friend.
All our love, Matt & Lynne Sharrers and the kids
We consider ourselves honoured to have known Lois for more than forty years. We often speak of her as being one of life’s beautiful people in looks and nature. Always welcoming whether we visited in Alice Springs or Calgary, she was always gracious with her hospitality. From being our first visitor at home with a beautiful gift when our daughter was born in 1975, to the crazy fancy dress parties we had, to chuck wagons at the Stampede, she was always ready to be in whatever was happening.
To Al, Sandy &Maria, Shannon & Kris and children we wish to extend our deepest sympathy. We will always remember Lois with love and admiration.
Jack & Kay
We have all lost a treasure. We first met Lois and the Magee family in Calgary when our children were in competitive swimming together as members of the Cascade Swim Club. Our association with Lois revealed a caring, kind person, endowed with great grace and class. She faced her struggle with cancer with the same grace and class we had witnessed over the many years of our friendship. Al was an inspiration throughout her struggle with his care giving and love for Lois. May the family find comfort in the knowledge that she was so very special in so many ways. We shall miss her dearly.

Dear Al, Sandy and Shannon,
We are shattered at the loss of Lois. She always had an incredible spirit and warmth that touched us all. My brothers and I were so fortunate to have the Magees in our lives – to us they were always, and still remain, ‘Uncle Al and Auntie Lois’. As a dominant part of our childhoods and beyond , they are part of many of my most special memories growing up.
My wife and kids never got to meet my mother, and Lois was the one who took that special place; not only for them, but for me as well. There were many occasions when I’d call her up, from whatever town in BC I was living in at the time, for insight and wisdom, just to catch up, or to get a recipe or cooking advice…”How long should I cook a 5lb pork roast and at what temperature? How do I make gravy just like yours?” When back from school Lois was always the first call to be made, and plans were quickly put together to catch up. If I planned it right, I could stop by and catch up with all the bridge girls on one of their game days and enjoy some of Lois’ great muffins, deserts and coffee — she made the best coffee! I’ll always remember her picking me up at the airport one cold January day and taking me out for a 30th birthday meal at Tony Roma’s – we enjoyed ribs and a bottle of wine. She has been a favorite in our kitchen for years; my kids can’t get enough of “Auntie Lois’ awesome quiche”.
Chris and I were so fortunate to be able to come over on Thanksgiving and talk with her and the whole family during our trip to Calgary. It was a very special.
Miss you and Love you,
David
I have only known Lois through her sister Jessie’s eyes but it seems like she was such a special person. Jessie and I have been friends for many years and she has always talked about Lois. She says that Lois and she were a lot alike and I know first hand what a special person Jessie is so I know I too would have really liked Lois.My sincere sympathy goes out to you and your family.
Dear Al, Sandy, Maria, Shannon, Kris and children : We were so saddened to learn of Lois’ passing and send along our sincere condolences to all of you. Our thoughts are also with her siblings as we know how much she was loved as a sister, aunt and cousin. Lois was a friend during our high school years and then reconnected when the family moved back to Canada. Although miles separated us, we kept in touch. We are truly blessed to have known Lois, and will cherish the memories of happy times shared on 4th Street West, Owen Sound. Our love to everyone. Myrna, Bernie & Family
I was so sorry to receive your email Al. Lois had such a difficult fight and was lucky to have you by her side throughout. I know how much she loved her family and grandchildren and how much she will be missed at Christmas. We will be raising a glass and thinking of her, and you, and your family.

Our hearts are saddened to hear of Lois’ passing. We are blessed to have known her and for welcoming us into the family from the time Kris met Shannon. We have fond memories from our visits and several ” Kodak moment” pictures that bring a smile. Lois was such a genuine and compassionate person who had such a zest for life and always surrounded by positive energy. Al, you were her strength while she fought her battle and her family and grandchildren were her inspiration. We will all miss her energy, spirit, and kindness.
With sincere condolences,
Faye,Lou and Tim
To Al, Sandy, Shannon and their loved ones,
My heart is broken for the loss of Lois, such a lovely person, a loving friend and a loved person by all who crossed paths with her.
I will always treasure the all too brief relationship I had with the entire Magee family as a coach and neighbour. Though time spread us apart I still warmly recall how well I was treated by Lois and the whole family. I felt like an adopted son as I was treated so kindly.
Please accept my condolences during this difficult time. And know that the many lives that Lois touched were made better by her presence..
All my best to the entire family..
With love,
Doug
Lois was the most beautiful, sweet, little blond girl, living with her family on the block behind our house in Owen Sound. Our gardens connected to each other. I played often with many of her siblings, (Anne being my age), and had a wonderful, carefree childhood, while I enjoyed playing on the swing/rings in their attic. Living in California for 60 years, I did not get to see Lois growing up, but I know she was a wonderful mother, wife and grandma, just from knowing her. I am so sorry for your loss. Beverlee (Croft) Nelson
Dear Al and family. I can only imagine your grief and heartache and words on my part can only express and impact a little. I will write separately. I have many fond memories of our relatively few years association back in Alice Springs, Central Australia, in the 1970’s, including dinner around the table in your home, the squash courts and more. It will be the wonderful memories of life together with Lois, and the support of family and friends, that will bring you through. More to come from me. God favour you with His Presence and Peace now. Sincerely, Stephen
Lois entered our family life in Sydney, where she was introduced as Al’s blushing bride. Al & my husband Tony had lived together in Brisbane and so it was when Lois joined him that she was embraced as a very loved daughter by our parents Gitta and Hedley. Lois was a person that you wanted to be close to, her natural goodness would always be shining and will continue to shine in our memories.
Tony and Pauleen Gates.
Dearest Al,. Sandy and Shannon
So sad to hear of the death of Lois. She was a good friend neighbor to us. I valued her friendship deeply and admired her tenacity and her constant courage with which she confronted her cancer.. She held her family very close to heart and ;loved you all.
May God comfort all who mourn, and may her memory always and forever be a blessing.
Love to you all and blessings. Zara & Arthur
We are very sorry to hear of Lois’ passing Al. We know that she had been very ill for a long time. Sincere condolences to all your family!

Dear Al, Sandy and Shannon, We are greatly saddenned by the news of Lois’ passing. We offer our deepest sympathy to you and your families. Though long expected the final goodbyes to one so dearly cherished cannot be easy and we wish you our strength and support at this time. We did raise a glass (or two!) to all those good times we shared in the Alice Springs of the the seventies, Al. A cluster of like-minded young families living, working, playing, having kids (I helped!) and growing them in the wonderful freedom that is the signature and essence of Central Australia. You and Lois were, and are in our memories, so much a part of that time. Never forgotten. Years later (’94) you will recall – we do – that breakfast in a hotel in Jasper. With hardly pause for breath we four sustained a talkfest of stories almost entirely devoted to our Centralian years which only ended nearly seven hours later when management finally asked us to leave so they could set up for dinner!. Lots of laughs, lots of memories. Thanks to Lois and you, your hospitality and friendship made our short visit to Calgary a cherished memory and one even more so today. This is the beautiful, vivacious and caring Lois we remember today. May your knowledge that Lois was such a special person to so many of us give you comfort in your grief. Goodbye, but never forgotten. Ross and Lynne.
