Condolences
I am a latecomer with condolences
Just today received the Green and White U of S alumni magazine where I heard of Marshals passing
A google search brought me to this site
We attended the U of S at h
The same time but did not meet until a year later in 1976 when me and Cliff Elian were taking borrowed motorcycles to San Fransisco
We stayed with you and Marshall in Calgary during the first week of July 1976 . I remember Marshal had a little black poodle that he trained to stand up and wear a sailors hat
Marshal stopped in to visit me here in Lloydminster about 8 years ago, he was shopping at Nelson Lumber for a cabin to have moved to a Lake near Yorkton
Sorry to hear of your loss

I now this is late, but I just learnt of Marshall’s passing moments ago. I first met Marshall in the early 1980’s ( we met at a pizza joint )to talk about a case- I was a young lawyer and he was my first experience with a real “expert”. Recently, a few years back (he must have just retired or perhaps he never really did), he checked out exploding windshields for me.
Marshall set a standard for experts that has stayed with me for my legal career. He gave advice as to what occurred and advised on what I night expect from the other side. When we talked last, we talked about his skidsteer – “everyone should have one”, he said.
I liked Marshall very much. It was a very sad moment in time to learn of his dying. Especially given he was at a time in his life when the joys of retirement were upon him. His loss must come as a shock and as a great sense of loss to his family and close friends. My sympathies are with you.
Rita,
We were so shocked and saddened by the news of Marshal’s death. Char let us know in a quick email. We can’t imagine the depth of sadness you must feel right now.

My sincere condolence in the loss of your husband Rita. This is big loss for many, may the peace of CHRIST fill your heart with His Love at this time.
I worked with and against Marshal on several occasions. He was always your friend, his jokes and big smile always made you laugh.

I am so, so sad to hear of Marshal’s death. He really was a larger-than-life character; a booming voice ready to tell a joke or share a tale of adventure. Marshal and Rita hosted our family many times over the years and my brother Brad and I grew up feeling as though they were an aunt and uncle, part of the extended family. He lived a full life, but one that was cut short much too soon.

It is sad to hear of Marshall’s passing. Although younger than I, we both started working for Transport Vehicle Safety in 1976, he with our team in Calgary, I with the HQ team in Ottawa. We did some good work together, and his presence was always welcome at out team meetings. Back in those days people were unaware of the necessity for helmets, seat belts and infant car seats. He was a staunch advocate of these, and I thought his impatience with the slow movement of Federal laws urged him to move to the private sector. He was a active member of the SAE, and a contributor to the Accident Sub Committee. Trips to ‘Greek town’ in Detroit with him were priceless.
A good man, and a good friend.
Dear Rita,
There are not enough words of comfort to express my sorrow for you and your family. I have worked with Marshal off and on for years and know he was of the highest calibre. I truly hoped his retirement would be long and happy. He will be forever missed and never forgotten. May you have only wonderful memories of your time together.

Rita..I don’t know what to say …I’m so so sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Marshal was an adversary in court yet a friend after and before the trial started. I have many good memories of dropping into your office and visiting with both of you whenever I needed to. I valued his friendship…and yours as well…God rest his soul.
Marshall the skidmark you left on the ones you touched will be visible long after the ones on the roads have vanished…God Speed.

Dear Rita
My heart breaks for you … you must be devastated.
Only Marshal would pull over on Deerfoot Trail when he realized something was wrong, thinking of others before himself.
Love, Sue and Quincy
Dear Rita, One can only imagine what you must be going through but please remember our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I find myself sitting here smiling remembering the many great times with the crew in Hague. I will always remember and will never forget Marshal although we lost touch with one another and is something I now truly regret.Time will ease the pain and will be replaced with many wonderful memories for you Rita. So sorry I will not be able to attend the service. Edd and Arlene Feairs
We were so deeply sadden to hear of Marshal’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and family.
Memories of Marshal and Rita have dominated my thoughts since the first shocking news last Thursday. One funny thought has intruded, and that relates to another tragic event, Jurgen’s death in 2000. When it was far enough past to joke, Marshal repeatedly said he was going to chase Jurgen around heaven in order to make him finish the report he had left unfinished on earth.
What a remarkable man!
Dear Rita and family,
All of our most deepest sympathies and saddness from family that could not be there. The lives Marshall touched will never be forgotten. Forever in our memories, and Rita for you, all the love that both you and Mashall shared. Family will be the most cherished comfort in the days and months to come. Always are love and prayers;
Love: Oma (Elizabeth Harder), Aunt Rita Harder and family, George and Hilda Harder and Family, Aunt Eleanor and Ruth Gregory.
Oh, Rita. My heart is broken for you and for yours and the world’s loss of our Marshal. I cannot begin to imagine how you will get through this, but remember Marshal’s love for living and eventually you’ll live well and fully as he would have wanted you to. If you need to get away for awhile, you know you always have a place with us. Our love to you, Rhonda and Tom
