Condolences
Carol and I were overdue for one of our tea/coffee dates. I worried when she did not email me back and I have only now discovered the news of her passing. Carol was a wonderful friend to me, she found me through my brochure about helping people with life-threatening illnesses embark on their dream holidays, something I began in honour of my late husband, who passed of colorectal cancer at the age of 33. She inspired me on so many levels, including putting me in touch with her tattoo artist so that I, too, could get my own tattoo in honour of my husband. She was fantastic company, always good conversation, and I am glad I took the time to build for her an inukshuk atop a mountain in southern Alberta, as I know she loved them. I am sad to lose such a fine friend and amazing warrior woman, and at the same time I feel uplifted knowing her spirit is now free of this cruel affliction. My empathy and understanding to you, her family and loved ones.
Fly high, my friend! I will never forget you!
It was a privilege to have known Carol. She was truly larger than life. Her tremendous spirit will continue to touch all those she knew for eternity. My deepest condolences to all her family. I will miss you my dear friend.
I came to know Carol through ‘Wellspring Calgary’, where she led the Multiple Myeloma Group. I was always amazed and impressed with her ever positive view of the world, in spite of her many challenges! She was an amazing person, and I feel privileged to have known her, however briefly. My condolences to her family.
My deepest sympathy to all the family. Carol was a dear friend of mine. I also have myeloma and was diagnosed 2003 . I helped Carol get through her journey when she was diagnosed. with tthis terrible disease. Carol was a very strong person and has left her mark on the wall. She will be missed by many including me.. God bless you all.
I read the passing of Carol Ann on the Cancer website. I understand your thoughts and grief because I too lost my husband last August of Multiple Myeloma. He was diagnosed in Dec 2007 and was a Full Time Firefighter in Innisfil, Ontario. Craig had the stem-cell transplant in 2008 and was in remission until April 2012. The disease finally took him down on Aug 3 but not without a fight. The town gave him a Line of Duty funeral. Although Craig did not start a support group, he did have many of his fire fighter brothers and friends either raise funds through BBQ’s, golf tournaments, the bike race and MM walk-a-thon. I hope through Carol Ann’s efforts and Craig’s friends and family that they will find a cure for this terrible devastating disease that took our loved ones from us.

I was one of the ones Carol touched. I only spoke with her twice on the phone as I too am diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I immediately bonded with Carol and in both conversations she gave me hope and strength. May her soul rest in peace and I know we will have an advocate up in heaven with this beautiful being.
We were very priviledged to have meet Carol through SAMPS after a MM diagnosis – she immediately offered to meet with us & helped us to learn & adjust – she was an inspiration & truly a warrior. We will sorely miss her! You must be very proud of her as we were blessed to know her. Words are so inadequate. Bless you all!
My deepest condolences to the family. My daughter, Rebecca Brennan, who met Carol and family when she interviewed them through the Walmart “Mom of the Year” contest said more than once what a lovely lady Carol was and how great the family is. My own Mom passed away February 16, 2011 from myeloma so we know what Carol and her family have endured. I hope as time goes on they will all feel comfort in the wonderful memories they have of her.

Carol fought a valiant battle against Myeloma. She was the strongest, bravest, determined and compassionate person I have known. Carol was a light in the world of Myeloma. I have been blessed beyond words for having Carol as a dear friend for the last several years. The life she lived while battling Myeloma will be an inspiration forever. My deep heartfelt condolences to Carol’s family. May her beautiful spirit fly and infuse us with joy as we remember this remarkable lady.
Dear family,
I got to know Carol at the mom of the year in Toronto, what a brave and courages lady she was, I am so sad to hear she has left us. She has fought the good fight. May you be surrounded by the memories of her undying love for you. May you feel the love she had for you the rest of your life.
sincerely, Eileen Thiessen
I had the pleasure to know Carol from a very young age and she was always someone that cared enough about me to guide and encourage me along life’s path. She had this ability to make a person laugh when all they felt like was crying and always helped you see the bright side of any situation or mistake you might have made. If you ask me those qualities are worth their weight in gold….just like Carol was! She will be missed but always remembered!
There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain and no more fears. There will be a day when cancer is cured, but we won’t forget, all of our fallen. We will remember you Carol. God Bless You.
Our deepest Sympathy on the loss of Carol. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this trying time. Arnold & Joyce

I am so sorry to have lost one of my best friends but I know it is even harder to lose a daughter, a sister, and especially, a mother. Thank you to her dear family for all the love, care and support you gave Carol. May some of her warriors spirit be carried on in you to give you strength to deal with your sorrow and your loss. It will take time….and if I can help in any way, just call.
I was so saddened and sorry to read about Carol’s passing. I knew her only slightly when I was in Calgary and part of Support Local Art… When I moved away we kept connected through Facebook.. Her posts always showed her as a positive fighting queen.. Her fierce dedication to the fight against Myeloma was inspiring.. I never saw any side of her but light and humour. She was always so proud of her children and grandchildren.
Oh, that there were more Carols in this world… but there must be an extra star in the sky now..
To the Westberg Family:
God has called back one of his angels she will always be in our hearts.
Carol was our visionary leader and my hero.
She had inherent ability to inspire everyone around her.
May the love she shared with us comfort the family and friends of this extraordinary person.
My sincere sympathy goes out to you Craig, Shona, Lee and your families. Your mom touched a lot of lives. She will be missed by many.
Carol was a true friend and inspiration. What a warrior! A bright light is gone. My sincere condolences to you all.
Our world will never be the same without Carol. Her loss is irreplaceable….I pray that you will find great comfort in knowing the amazing legacy she left behind,….She one-handidly made “myeloma matter” to many and helped thousands in their journey with this disease.
I will miss her dearly.
