Obituary of Marilyn Lucille Elizabeth MOYER
Marilyn Lucille Elizabeth Moyer, born December 11, in a year of her choosing, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed silently while she slept, into a surprising and marvelous new adventure, while at her home in Calgary, Sunday, September 2nd, 2012.
But we don’t hear the silence. We hear the echo of Double M’s incredibly delicious laughter. Marilyn had such a sassy sense of humour. And even though Mar was cheeky, she showed us a real spirituality. Marilyn had enough love in her soul to send her to supreme heights… and Heaven is the ultimate.
Marilyn once wrote of a friend how they built their soul by effort and error, study and love. And how they did it with more dedication than most- not for their own benefit, but for the benefit of those who knew them. She said, “It’s hard to accept that a soul like theirs which took a lifetime to build, could cease to exist. But of course, their soul does exist, because they gave of it so freely and unstintingly. It exists in each of us who knew them.”
Marilyn could have been talking about herself.
When we speak of Marilyn, we speak of her great love for others: her cherished family who were such a huge support in her life; her countless friends who cared for her, as deeply as she cared about them. Double M’s friends included people from all walks of life: engaging entrepreneurs; unforgettable colleagues from the film industry; treasured caregivers; interesting personalities from all religions, genders; the disabled and the able bodied.
Our plucky Marilyn confronted many health issues over the years, but was never defined by them.
We appreciated her amazing wit, we counted on her wisdom, and we admired her conviction- Marilyn Moyer knew who she was. We will always, forever, remember Mar’s naughty laugh, as she swept back her hair with those fingers sporting screaming red nail polish, as the bangles on her arm went wild.
Surviving our unforgettable Marilyn is her favorite sister Joanne Moyer (Tom Byers); her other favorite sister Ardell (Lanny McDonald); nieces Andra (Josh Townsley, and great-nephews Calder and Hayden), Leah, Barrett (Kaci, and grand-niece Hadley), and Graham McDonald; and the angels at her side every day, Bing and Lulu.
Marilyn is enjoying happiness in Heaven with her beautiful mother Lucille, gentle father Frank, and beloved brother Gerard.
A celebration of Marilyn’s wonderful life will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 18th Avenue SW in Calgary) on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In honor of Marilyn, donations may be made to the Calgary HandiBus Association.
