Obituary of Mark SIMPSON
August 15, 1962 – Montreal, Quebec
October 16, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
Mark crackled with life. It was in his smile, his gestures, his humour and, more importantly, in how he loved his family, his many friends and his wife, Susan Cardinal. He was adored by his sisters Diana, Gayle, Lynn, his brother Michael, his in-laws Geoff and Mary Cardinal and their families. He was loving and loved. Mark had such amazing curiosity in the world around him. In his early days growing up in Burlington, Mark made lifelong friends and delved into sports and theatre. He moved west with the family and eventually joined CBC Radio in Calgary as a radio technician. Later, he would work in IT at the University of Calgary and especially enjoyed his time at the Faculty of Nursing. Mark had a thirst for seeing new things and experiencing whatever life offered. He shared this passion with Susan and together they formed a television documentary company. They shared a marvellous journey, always returning to their wonderful neighbourhood, friends and family. Some of Mark’s favourite memories involved lawn bowling, biking, walking, playing his ukulele and sitting on the front porch trading stories with the neighbours and members of the WTF Club. In the final days before his passing on October 16, 2017 at age 55, Mark often said how lucky he was to have such love around him. And all of us close to him feel lucky too, having had him in our warm embrace.
A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held at the Southern Alberta Pioneers Building (3625 4th St. S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Wellspring Calgary which supports patients and families dealing with cancer. Or better still, do what Mark also did – help a sister or brother, a friend or neighbour and help your community. Your time is gold.
