Obituary of Lora THISTLE

March 31, 1961 – August 14, 2012 Lora-Lynn “Lora” Thistle (nee Robertson), beloved wife of Owen Thistle of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the age of 51 years. Lora was an amazing mother, wife and hero to many, including all the doctors and nurses who saw her over the course of her thirteen year cancer journey. She leaves behind a legacy of helping other cancer patients to find their way from initial diagnosis through treatment. She had countless phone conversations with women across the country who learned from Lora how to see through the tears to a path forward. While in remission she joined two doctors in founding the “Breast Cancer Supportive Care” practice in Calgary; and helped build it to a fully funded, operational, and highly valued addition to the cancer care system in Calgary. Meanwhile, and most importantly, Lora was dedicated to being a parent. She maintained a “normal” home life during the course of her treatments, and saw our girls grow into strong young women. Besides her loving husband Owen, Lora is survived by her daughters, Kymber, Shayla and Cailyn; parents Joy and Grahame Robertson; and brothers, Doug, Dale (Lisa) and Chip. Also surviving Lora are her in-laws Kathryn and Graham Thistle. A Celebration of Lora’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
