Donald Spicer of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the age of 91 years.
Don founded a Calgary institution, Don’s Hobby Shop, in 1959. There he made many people very happy over the years from those interested in models, trains and crafts to others actively involved in the theatre and education communities. Don’s Hobby Shop became a go to place for Halloween. He sold the business, which still operates today, in 2003. He was an active member of the Bearspaw Lions Club for many years, and was a past President. He was especially proud of some of the charitable initiatives of the club. In November 2017, the club recognized his contributions over the years with a Lifetime Membership Award. Don was passionate about cars, ranching and farming and for a period of time raised sheep and cattle. He will be sadly missed by many.
Don is survived by his sister Doreen and his children Darcy, Dale, Holly and David and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.
Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Connie on January 18, 2016 and his daughter Linda in 1985.
