Condolences
I looked up to Dr. Hoffman when I lived in Ile a la Crosse. I became a surgeon and my daughter is in medical school. He was an inspiration.
Dr Hoffman saved my dad's life in the early 70's My family is forever grateful. Danny Leonard
Ryan, Kathy and Celestine: Your father and grandfather lived large! He accomplished so much, and gave so much to his community and his family … he lived well and very, very long. Sad to see the end of a life, but rejoice in the memories, and a peaceful passing. You’re in my thoughts, Hetty
I will always cherish the memory of Dr. Hoffmann. During my childhood growing up in Ile a la Crosse, he saved my mother’s life, who had a brain tumor in 1958. She lived until 1982 after several bouts of cancer. Dr. Hoffmann saved a lot of lives while he worked in Ile a la Crosse, he was not afraid to take scalpal and perform surgeries, he delivered countless babies. I go home to Ile a la Crosse many times each year and when I travel across the lake to Sandy Point where we lived at one time, I always look at his house at the point and remember him and Mrs Hoffmann and her big smile. Rest in Peace my doctor, you served my people well.
Dr. Meinrad Hoffman and his wife Eva were part of my life when I was growing up in Ile a la Crosse. They lived not very far from where I grew up and still live.
I am sad to hear that Gabrielle and Celestine have lost their father. You may not remember my parents, Louis and Georgina Bouvier, who are also now gone, but you would remember my sister Laura, who is your age peer.
Your father must have had interesting stories about having been the lone physician for a huge area. It would be interesting to read anything written about his experience of life here.
Dr. Hoffman was a wonderful person and a fantastic and loving doctor. He delivered most of our children, and usually commented that one of them, maybe, would be the one to look after us in our old age!
He was well respected as a doctor and one of the best diagnostic doctors in the province. When his first wife passed, he carried on b ravely as he could, and was supported in this by his two girls.
I remember well the many times he came to the assistance of my wife at the ile-a-crosse hospital. He was a wonderful person and a fantastic doctor
So sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Hoffman. He was very kind to us and helped us a lot throughout our Northern years when we lived in Beauval. We have only heart-warming memories of him, and treasure the wonderful picture of him and Eva from many years ago at a “formal” gathering in Beauval.
Sincere condolences.
We the Bouvier family would like to send our sincere condolences he was a well respected man here in Ile a la crosse. Our prayers are with you.
Liebe Eva,
Margarete
