Dear Celia: I do apologize for the delay in sending you a message of condolence as I have not been monitoring the yahoo email as diligently as I should.
I have many wonderful memories of you two at Charlie and Joyce’s and of Walter as a physician and friend while I was working in Fort Mc Murray. Although many years ago, I smile on recalling his sense of humour that smoothed many exchanges and built camaraderie.
With love, affection, and condolences. LOL Sharon

From your old buddy Fletch
I may have only met him twice as a patient at the Cochrane clinic. He was a very sweet gentleman. I send my condolences to the family. May you cherish the memories.
To all of Dr Gjosunds’ family,
My heartfelt condolences to you at the loss of your beloved family member. I knew and liked the concerned and caring healer as my doctor but also got to spend a little time talking of other things. On my last visit we talked of his time in the military and how it affected his career choice and how much he loved living and working in Cochrane. I commented on his new moustache and a quiet smile was my goodbye.
He will be missed.
I got to know Walter when I was a Paramedic/FireFighter in Fort McMurray in the 80’s. He was such a nice man that really cared about his community. Walter was funny and was always smiling.
Walter was a great doctor to me and I will miss him…

Walter looked after me when I was pregnant with David. I heard my baby’s heartbeat for the first time in his office, that is a special memory that I will always be grateful for.
Walter was always very kind and had a beautiful smile. It was a treat to have known him.
Dear Celia, My condolences on the death of Walter. I know you will miss him terribly. May your many happy memories support you and your family in your time of grief.
We are shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Walter Gjosund. He was our family Doctor since the early 80’s in Fort Mac. and at his many Medical Clinics in Calgary and finally in Cochrane. Walter was more than a Family Doctor. He was the best Doctor as well as the greatest and most gentle person we have ever had the privilege to be associated with. We always shared a lot of laughs and many fond memories on our visits. Like the time a few years ago when he called me at to confirm I had Mono. I commented at 64, I was too old to have Mono. After a short pause and a little chuckle he replied Brian, you may want to stay off the internet for awhile. These memories will be cherished in our hearts forever.
Celia and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all in this time of great loss.
We will see you on Sunday.

Although I haven’t seen you for awile as you can guess I’ve been healthy.

Dear Celia,
Our thoughts are with you with this terrible loss – we will be with you in Cochrane to celebrate his life on Sunday. Walter was our family Doctor in Fort McMurray, Calgary & more recently Cochrane. We followed him from clinic to clinic as he provided genuine care & attention we’ve found in no other Doctor, anywhere in the world. He’d always make time to listen & advise and was never reluctant to recommend specialist advice as needed.
I showed the guys at “Wings Night” this last Wednesday a prescription that Walter gave me in 2007. After routine annual tests he asked me whether I managed to control my blood INR to the recommended limits? I told him I did, but had to be careful if I’d had a lot of drinks the night before my INR tests. Without saying a word, Walter scribbled out a prescription which I’ve kept to this day – it simply said -“Drink Consistently”. This is a testament to Walter’s great sense of humour.
We’ll miss him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Gjosund for the last few years, I am fortunate and grateful to have known him for this short time, he was a wonderful doctor and a wonderful person.
Goodbye Dr. Gjosund you will never be forgotten.
Celia and family.
We are truly saddened by your loss. It is a sad moment for all of us. We will miss Walter’s witt and his clever thoughts and comments. Our thoughts and love are with all of you.

The world has lost a very wonderful man. My sincere condolences to Celia, and the rest of the family as well as the staff at Alpine Medical Clinic. I have been a patient of Dr. Gjosund since I was 15, in Fort. McMurray and I followed him to all his clinics in Calgary and Cochrane. I am shocked at this news, as I saw him less than 2 weeks ago and he was in very good spirits. I have never had a doctor as wonderful as him, and I don’t think I ever will. The man had a heart of gold and infinite wisdom. He truly cared for his patients, and spoke of his lovely family often. I feel blessed that my baby girl Zoe, had a chance to meet him for the first 18 months of her life and have been cared for by him. I wish I could say thank you to him one last time, for all he has done for me and my family. Rest in Peace Dr. Gjosund. You will never be forgotten. You have touched so very many lives.
Dear Celia and family and friends:
Our sincerest condolances on Walter’s passing. He spent his life helping other people professionally as a Doctor and as a citizen …and he was Shirley’s Doctor for many years in FtMcM and Calgary. He will be sadly missed. We had the opportunity to enjoy his and your warm hospitality on several occasions. You knew with even a brief conversation with Walter that he had led a full and interesting life and had a wry perspective on it all. We are sorry we can’t attend his service on Sunday but our thoughts are with you and your family as you celebrate his life.
All the very best in these difficult times.
Greg & Shirley
Dear Celia & family:
I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Gjosund’s passing. I was a patient of his in Fort McMurray for many years and he was a wonderful doctor and a wonderful person. I used to tease him that he reminded me of “Mr. Belvedere” and he always smiled at that. May God bless you all during this difficult time.
We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Walter’s passing.
He touched numerous lives, including ours.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We will always be here for you.
I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Gjosund’s passing, he was a wonderful man and so giving to his community. I remembered when he served as United Way Campaign Chair and how dedicated he was to the position even though he had a full time medical practice. He was my first Campaign Chair when I joined United Way and I will always be so thankful for his caring and guidance. He was just too young to leave already….
Celia and family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Deepest sympathy and condolences. I have very fond memories of Walter from his years of service in Fort McMurray.

Dear Celia. Our sincere condolences on Walter’s sudden passing and the loss that you and your family are feeling. You will see him again. The grief will subside and your journey will go on.
Only twice did I meet Dr. Gjosund, and that was as a drop-in patient at the Cochrane clinic. I learned of his passing when I tried to book an appointment, today, specifically to see him.
You see, the first time we met, as doctor/patient, I admired his watch. He told me that he had won it on a bet, many years ago, and had worn it since. It was obvious that my comment triggered some fond memory, but it was a busy day, with no time for further enquiry or explanation – therefore I was very pleased when the next time I ‘dropped in’ at the clinic, Dr. Gjosund was again in attendance. This time, I asked him to explain the bet which had won him his watch.
His wife knows the story of Dr. Gjosund’s watch, as it was she who lost the bet! and although he used few words to tell it, I was granted the lasting image of an interesting couple who, on the verge of a great journey, amidst the busy-ness of such a place as Heathrow Airport, were still very much engaged with each other, still conversing and listening to each other, still attentive despite all that would have been going on around them.
It seemed a fine watch; but what impressed me more is that the man remembered so well the circumstances and details of a conversation with his wife, so many years ago. It is a story that I shall always keep in my memory, much as the good doctor kept his watch. I wish I could have learned more of those two people, because it seemed that he, for one, had enjoyed and valued the time they spent together.
Sincerely,
D.B. Rae
