Obituary of Gordon FISHWICK

March 23, 1916 – February 14, 2012 Gordon has passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the age of 95 years after a courageous battle in hospital. Gordon was born in Mountain Park, Alberta and grew up in Stettler. Music was an integral part of the Fishwick household and it was one of the dominant forces in his life. Gordon played a number of instruments, including the trombone and bass; he took part in many bands, including throughout his service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. Gordon moved to Calgary in 1946 to work as a piano tuner with his father. For many years, he was a highly-respected piano technician in the Calgary area. He operated Fishwick’s Piano Service with his sister Doris and her husband Ralph, working from the shop at his house. Until he unfortunately fell and broke his hip four years ago, Gordon still enjoyed working part-time, tuning pianos for his long-time clients and working in the shop on pianos that came his way. Sports were also an important part of Gordon’s life. In his youth he was an avid tennis player and later he was a dedicated golfer and bowler. Exceptionally good health throughout his long life and his ongoing participation in the work and sports activities he loved kept him young at heart. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family He is survived by his sister Doris Clay Stewart (and her partner Andre), nieces and nephews Thomas Clay (Karen), Pamela Berg (Kent), Kathy Muirhead (Keith), Brian Fishwick (Betty), Alan Fishwick (Muriel), Peter Fishwick and their extended families. Gordon was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law Norman (Ann) and Harold (Nora), his brothers-in-law Ralph Clay and Larry Stewart and his nephew Howard Fishwick. A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
