Obituary of Gordon Albert DREW
October 16, 1922 – January 16, 2012
It is with great love and heavy heart that we announce the passing of Gordon Albert Drew on Monday, January 16, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Gordon lived his life to the fullest and loved being around his family and friends. Gordon was born and raised in Calgary. At the age of seventeen his yearning for adventure led him to join the Canadian Navy where Gordon served through WWII. Upon his return from the high seas to Calgary he married his love Anne Verbunt. Gord and Anne were married for 39 years where they raised four children. Over those blissful years Gord and Anne enjoyed many great times with family and friends from Rockyford to Victoria where many adventurous stories can be told. Upon his retirement Gordon enjoyed numerous summers travelling throughout the western provinces with his dear friend and companion Nellie Chabra and more recently enjoying the summer sunsets in Nordegg together. Gordon gave back by spending many enjoyable hours volunteering for St. James Catholic Church, the 1988 Winter Olympics, Royal Canadian Legion and the Poppy Fund. Gordon is predeceased by his wife Anne Drew, his sister Iris and his brothers, Jim and Colin Drew. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by his four children JoAnne (Colin) Jackson, Judy Shaw, Gordon (Rhonda) Drew and Robert (Laurie) Drew, his grandchildren, Debbie, Cathy, David, Lindsay, Michael, Jarrett, Jason, Morgan, and his six great grandchildren. All who knew Gordon will miss his positive support and his practical sense of humour.
At the request of Gordon, a private funeral will be held. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisholloway.com If friends so desire donations may be made to the Poppy Fund. The family wishes to thanks the Chartwell Colonel Belcher, the Foothill Cardiac ICU and the Rockyview Hospital for the comfort and concern you gave to our dad, granddad and great grandfather over the last few months.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.
