Condolences
I am deeply saddened by the passing of such a wonderful man and leader and my thoughts are with Leslie and Paul. I was a member of the Small Business team and reported to Jack from 2000 to 2003. Intelligent and kind are perfect words to describe Jack, and I also remember his incredible energy and his passion for people. Once Christmas, when I worked with Jack in Regional Office, we decided that we needed to jazz up the Holiday Greeting Card - guess who dressed up as Santa!! So many great memories and so many lessons learned from working with him. Susan Ewanick
Deep Sympathies..suck a shock. Jack was a mentor and friend- Leadership Victoria was how our lives were connected. Even after I moved to Vancouver and Jack to Calgary, Jack stayed in touch. I looked back to one of his last emails where he shared his grief after Gail's passing but also wrote how he was surrounded by love : " I have my most wonderful daughter and granddaughters here."
It was an honour to have known Jack
Jack and Gail were our next door neighbours when we moved to Victoria in 2003. They were warm and helpful. We lost touch when they moved away. We hope moving to Calgary worked out for them. They were a dear kind couple. Bonnie and David McDonald
I was so shocked to read of Jack’s death in the Calgary Herald today.
Jack was my boss in Victoria at the CIBC there. He was such a star. He cared about each of his managers. He was intelligent and lots of fun. We were all sad when he left us. I have many fond memories of Jack. I send my condolences to Leslie, Paul and the grandchildren. It also shocked me to read that Gail too had passed. So sorry for the family and friends and coworkers. Gail Weekes.
I was saddened to read of Jack’s death. Have many good memories of he and his family when I worked for him in Whitehorse in '88 and '89. Briefly reconnected with Jack and Gail after I moved to Victoria, which happed to be because Jack gave my name to the person who became my boss for the next 20 some years. Thanks, Jack, for that recommendation, thoroughly enjoyed living and working in Victoria. Sorry I couldn't paste a couple of pictures of the CIBC staff during Rendezvous 1989 with Jack in them
Was saddened to read in today’s Victoria Times Colonist that our good friend Jack has passed away.
Jack and Gail were our next door neighbours 30 years ago.We have remained friends and Jack and I worked together on the boards of Junior Achievement and Leadership Victoria. Jack was a gifted leader and always had time for everyone. He will be missed by the many friends they made in Victoria.
Jack is now back in the arms of his beloved Gail.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Leslie , Paul, and grandchildren.
Jim Ralph and family
I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend. We all met in grief group and all became such good friends. He loved Gail and his children so much and was so proud. I will miss Jack's sense of humour, his intelligence, and kindness. My heart aches for his daughter and son. RIP Jack
I'm still deeply shocked and in dismay. Can't wrap my brain around the fact Jack is gone.
I met Jack only five months ago when we attended (with many others) a grief group due to the loss of our spouses. All the members of the group became such good friends, and we were so happy we found each other to support and listen to while we try to figure out what happened to us.
Jack had a rough last year, not only mentally but physically as well. He faced his challenges one by one and tried to navigate his new life in a direction he felt was OK for him. I am glad I had the chance to speak to him on the phone and get to know him better. He always was a good listener and a fun and open person who shared his heart.
My heart breaks for his kids and grandkids, as well as for my friends from the grief group. We all lost a warm, good-hearted man who will be missed by many, amid these awful days of anguish, sorrow, and fear.
Rest in peace, dear Jack. I'm going to miss you.

I have know Jack for over 25 years, having first met in Halifax at CIBC. I have so many great memories of Jack. My earliest fond memory of Jack was on one of our monthly “road shows” where, while driving to the branch in Shelburne, we sang as loud as we could the song from the Lion King, “Hakuna Matata” for the entire drive. My most recent memory of Jack was just a few days before he passed. We had a 2 hour video chat during which we laughed, we joked and we traded stories and recipes. Jack was a family man who had a big heart and a great sense of humour, both of which he passed along to his daughter Leslie. While I will miss him terribly, he will live on In the memories of all the good times we shared.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jack in the 1990s when an opportunity to join his small business team arose. Although I had little/no small business banking experience Jack seemed confident in my abilities and provided me with a number of opportunities to grow within his team and CIBC.
I appreciated Jack's leadership style, his passion for learning, our clients, and growing the business. He had a very quick wit and a wonderful laugh.....thinking of him makes me smile. I have enjoyed my career spanning 30 years now in financial services and I can honestly say that the few years I had working alongside Jack and his team are some of my fondest memories!
Jack, I will miss you but I will never forget you. You have made an impact on my life and I thank you for sharing your time with me.
Much love, hugs, and prayers. Brady
I worked for jack in Victoria, B.C. late 80s early 90s. He was truly an exceptional person. We worked out of the same offices I was a single mom with two young sons. Came to work early 6:30 - 7 Jack would help my oldest go over his homework before I drove him to school. That 5-10 minutes a day meant the world to him. He is a doctor now and still remembers him. A wonderful person and a wonderful leader. Diane Quilty
I knew Jack for quite a while, first by reputation; then as an acquaintance; then as a colleague when we worked together as Region Heads for Small Business Banking; finally and most importantly as a friend. I don't remember meeting too many people at CIBC who loved their job (whatever it was) more than Jack did. I'm sad to hear of his death but will always remember him. RIP.
Will miss a great friend and mentor. Rest in Peace Jack. Condolences to the family.
I first met Jack “over the phone” when I worked in Calgary and he was a DM in Victoria. When he returned to BC from the Maritimes he hired me to move to Vancouver as DM. It was very fun working for Jack as his enthusiasm, creativity and work ethic keep us all on our toes! I’m very sad he didn’t get to have more time to share his energy and “big heart” with his grandchildren, family and no doubt new and old friends in retirement... RIP, you will be missed by many.
Working for Jack at CIBC was a valuable learning experience. A no-nonsense guy who was well regarded by his peers. He will be missed, Jack truly made a difference.
I shall miss my dear friend Jack, after nearly 40 years of friendship. There are so many memories. One that stands out is the afternoon Jack and I went to visit Ted Harrison - the painter in his Oak Bay, Victoria studio. We had both met Mr. Harrison before and have some of his joyful work. Before I knew it, Jack and Ted were having a deep conversation about the intellect of ravens. Mr. Harrison frequently painted ravens into his stories. After a good hour, Jack and I left Mr. Harrison, the last time we would visit with this gentle kind man. As we walked down the street, Jack said to me, that was surreal. It absolutely was. I'm sure Jack and Ted will find each other now.
Met and go to know Jack while I was at CIBC in Toronto. We exchanged a few messages since then. The statement in his obituary; "He was a kind, intelligent, warm, trustworthy and caring man" sums it up well; RIP Jack.

I reported to Jack when the Small Business Banking Division was established and he was the Senior Vice President for Western Canada. Jack was a big personality on the outside and a very compassionate person on the inside. He was a boss and a friend, a unique combination - one of a kind. My condolences to the family.

Condolences to Jack and Gail’s family.
I met Jack and Gail in 1994-95, when they hosted a week long Caribbean Cruise for over eight hundred CIBC achievers. What a wonderful week that was. Many friendships were formed. The Shores were a lovely couple! Rest In Peace, Jack and Gail!
I had the privilege of working indirectly with Jack. He was a classy guy with quick wit. Fond memories.
I worked directly for Jack spanning 7 years in 3 different positions. He was a high energy individual and never at a loss for new ideas. While I worked for him, I found him to be a very supportive team leader. Later when we both retired, he became a dear and loyal friend. We had plans to meet on the golf course once his shoulder healed and I shall forever carry a sadness over not being able to join him on the links.

I first met Jack when he was a manager at 400 Burrard, Vancouver and I was in Risk Management. He and I became good friends and I will always remember his kindness and concern for people in general but, mainly for his fellow employees. He became a well liked respected boss and ambassador for the bank. He will be missed by all who knew him but will always be in our hearts and our memories. RIP Jack and thank you for being my friend.
I first met Jack at the CIBC in Regina prior to my move to CIBC in BC. Our paths crossed again a number of years later when Jack transferred to the BC Region. I was in the Small Business Division and he was appointed the SVP of this area. He was a great leader with a sincere interest in customers and employees and had an honest and transparent way of communicating with people. Plus his larger than life personality made him a great guy to work with. Sincere condolences to his family and may he RIP. Lenora McQueen
I had the pleasure of being his Assistant Manager in Whitehorse. I have very fond memories of trips to Dawson City. “ How Legends are Made” is a print by artist Chris Caldwell telling the story of one trip. I am proud to have print #3 of 30 on my wall. His references helped me get selected for postings in the West Indies and my subsequent return to Canada. I had hoped to visit him in Calgary. Sympathy and prayers for all family and friends.
