Condolences
I first met Emmett in grade nine at Prince Albert Collegiate Institute. He fell in with me and two other guys and we hit it off. We were all involved with Air Cadets and we all got pilot licenses together under the air cadet flying scholarship program. We hung together and were great friends all through school. We have remained friends all our lives and although we took separate paths in life, we never lost touch.
I am proud to have known Emmett all these years. He was a a really good man and a great friend.......Vern Baugh
To the Family of Emmett Horne, i don't know if I've known a lovelier human being but will always remember the warmth, grace and sense of honour it was to have crossed paths with Emmett. His smile was the kindest and i can never forget how apologetic he was coming to the Suncor offices for a meeting but not sharing of his difficult circumstances being impacted by the flood in 2013 but only concerned that he had regretted being delayed in meeting with his Suncor contact. I am blessed in life beyond measure to have met such a true gentleman and quiet scholar! My sincerest condolences. Verna Mah
Emmett was the first person I spoke to when I first applied to work in the Oilsands back in 2005. His character immediately came through and I was excited to be joining his company. Over the years he became a mentor and a friend. While he delivered many formal presentations that greatly benefitted my career, it was the many nights out, sharing stories over pints, that were so memorable. Emmett was always a character and always provided such a unique perspective on work and on life. His impact to our industry is apparent when you visit each site; his fingerprints are all over the geology everywhere. Personally, I am forever indebted for the mentorship and friendship he shared.
Emmett was a true character and I learned a lot about oil sands geology working with him several years ago. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed by the geological community in Alberta & I will miss seeing him at the MEG luncheons!
Emmet was the best geologist I ever worked with. We were together for many years at the Iron Ore Company in Schefferville, PQ, and then Ft Mac Murray. Such a woderful character - always lots of amusing stories. Emmett will be missed. John & Camille Devon
