I was very sad to hear of Emmett's passing. I met Emmett in the winter of '97, when he gave me the chance to work for him at Terracon. Like so many others under his guidance and mentorship, he gave me the support and confidence to start, grow and excel at my career. For that opportunity, I will be eternally grateful. We stayed in touch over the years getting together for the odd lunch, beer or work project. I always looked forward to his company - listening to the stories about Bolivian revolution, salmon fishing, pheasant hunting or the pride he had for his grandchildren. I will always, most fondly, remember our time together in Fort McMurray discussing oilsands geology and logging core. Hans Heltke
I last saw Emmett in person in Gaspesie, Quebec 10 years ago, one of his favourite places. Since then, it’s been just the telephone but despite the years he’s still much on my mind and his passing triggers many memories. He always had my best interests at heart, as well as others. Emmett was enthusiastic about many things, and he cared. You could count on an informed perspective and spirited viewpoint. He was the best Geologist I ever knew, with deep knowledge in many geological times and mineral commodities, not to mention expertise in oilsands. And I’ve not known anyone as passionate about fly fishing and upland birds and their conservation. He was several things to me: supervisor, roommate, prospecting partner, ofttimes mentor but most of all a best of friends for many years. I’ll both miss and fondly remember him down the stretch……Rob Dean
