Obituary of Kevin Michael Weiler
October 19, 1967 – March 31, 2023
Kevin Weiler of Calgary, born October 19th, 1967, passed away on March 31st, 2023, at the age of 55 years due to complications following 38 years of quadriplegia.
Kevin was a force of nature who lived an extremely full life. A true man about town with the best sense of humour; Kevin loved great restaurants, wine, flashy clothes, hockey games, and most of all, a good party. Kevin's presence always made any event even more fun. Everyone- loved him — it was impossible not to.
Kevin graduated with two degrees from the University of Calgary. His first was a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, followed by his graduation from law school in 1997. He articled for Julien Landry and was called to the Bar in 1998. In addition to practising law, Kevin wore many other hats in his life, including running an Elections Canada office and working at Wild Rose Brewery.
Kevin also loved to travel with his family and many great friends. One of his favourite destinations was Seattle, where he loved watching Seahawks games. He also enjoyed memorable experiences like living it up in Vegas, getting into shenanigans in Key West, and sunbathing with his family in Hawaii.
Above all else, Kevin valued relationships. He had a huge heart and was a deeply kind and loyal friend. He will be particularly missed by his lifetime friends in the Haysboro Gang, especially Brian and Ronnie, as well as his university buddies Jimmy, Brian, and Ed.
Kevin's family would also like to take the time to thank Dr. J.D. Thorson, Kevin's long-time physician, for all the help and support he gave Kevin over the years. They would also like to thank the home health nurses of CBI Health, whose excellent care was such an important part of Kevin's life. Special recognition goes out to Perly, Rowella, Juliet, and Sharon. Thank you so much for everything you do.
Also special thanks to the staff at South Calgary Dialysis Centre, Sunpark Plaza, Calgary.
Finally, the Weiler family would also like to thank the many taxi drivers whose accessible vehicles made it possible for Kevin to enjoy many, many rowdy nights on the town over the years.
Kevin is survived by his parents, Joyce and Paul Weiler, two brothers Adam (Michelle) Weiler and daughter Cate [Seattle] and Patrick Berry [Chestermere], Aunt Audrey (deceased April 2, 2023) (Don) Ross [Calgary], Aunt Deb Weiler (with partner Wayne Schwartzentruber) [London ON], Uncle Ken (Inge) Kluk [Calgary] and Aunt Gwen Morton [London, ON].
