Laurie Temprile

Obituary of Laurie Lee Temprile

October 14, 1963 – Regina, Saskatchewan

September 29, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Laurie Temprile, beloved wife of Tony Temprile and mother of Nicholas and Michael, passed away with Tony by her side on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the age of 60 years.

Laurie was born in Regina, SK, on October 14, 1963, but grew up in Calgary, AB, with her mother and sister.

Laurie graduated from Mount Royal College in 1984 with a diploma in Social Work. She honed her relationship-building skills as a youth worker for many years, where she met Tony in 1985 and knew from that first moment that she would marry him. Laurie married Tony in 1992 and celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary this year on July 25.

Many know Laurie through her practice as a Shaman, which she began later in life. Laurie initially spent a month in Peru in the early 2010s to complete her training as a Shaman but returned there many times in the years following to grow her training authentically and truthfully. Laurie spent the last thirteen years as an active and contributing member of many spiritual communities in Calgary and beyond. She touched and guided many lives through her practice ‘Soul Gardens’, which she ran out of her very own backyard studio.

Although she classified herself technically as a Peruvian Shaman, Laurie’s curiosity and fervor for spiritual ways of life lead her to establish many meaningful connections with other practitioners and practices that informed her work and her being – from many Indigenous ways of knowing and being, to various Buddhist practices, Laurie cultivated an approach to life that was incredibly unique to her. She will be most remembered for this, which gave her an uncontainable zest for life even in dark times.

Laurie had a passion for her garden and for crafting magical dwellings and decor to fill it. Her summers, when not spent at the family cabin on Lake Invermere, BC, were often spent creating miniature fairy gardens and gnome houses in her craft room, as well as cultivating her garden beds with flowers alongside Tony, who took on the vegetables. Passersby who took the path along the back garden in the warmer months would often stop to admire Laurie’s enchanting work; they are also met with the soft, resonating tinkling of her many wind chimes, and the pleasant smell of roses, daisies, and many other flowers that she loved to nurture. Thus, even those who did not know Laurie will continue to experience her spirit.

Laurie was an excitable, supportive, and active mother. Anyone who has visited Laurie and Tony’s kitchen can confirm that her sons were no strangers to her love, whose childhood art projects still adorn the walls. Her endless energy for Nicholas and Michael is documented in each photo with them, wherein she always wears an infectious ear-to-ear grin. She taught her family compassion, acceptance, and inspired them with her strength and resilience.

Besides her loving husband, Antony “Tony” Temprile, Laurie is survived by her two sons, Nicholas and Michael, of Calgary, AB, their partners Re Parsons and Ella Badiou, and her nephew Chad Berger, of Calgary, AB. Laurie was predeceased by her mother, Adele White, and sister, Sherry Berger.
