Tony, Nicholas and Michael:
Many of the words I want to write get used so much that they may not do justice to the profound loss you must feel. The grace, strength, and courage Cathy and I saw over these last few years was awe-inspiring. I know of no greater exemplification of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s "It's not the destination, it's the journey”.
We have a wonderful community in this neighbourhood and I am sure I speak for many to say that Laurie is a huge part of it, always will be, and it was difficult for us too knowing this day would one day arrive. You shared enough to take us along as gently as possible; that truly was a gift. Thank you.
Laurie’s obituary speaks of fairy gardens and gnome houses. For those who haven’t seen it, I cannot describe how spellbinding truly looking at the detail on the stump in the backyard can be. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the scale of some of it, but a world of intricate fascination awaits those take the time to make a closer examination. And knowing the little I do about Laurie’s spirituality, I can’t help but think there’s still a connection to her creations. If I ever walk by in the evening, and see light appearing from behind one of the fairy doors or windows, I am not going to peek.
